More so the IL2 rear gunner. I mean, i'm only flying upside down towards a heavy AA nest!

I wonder if that particular .wav file is removed we will never have to hear that SOB again, while not inflicting any undesireable effects on the game itself (scripting, hangs due to missing commands, etc.).

Anyone explore that yet?

What if you choose the highest rank at the beginning of a campaign?
Correct me if I'm wrong.

That works, though it kills some of the fun from ever getting promoted during a campaign..

You could choose a lower senior rank, so that you initially command a wing, but not the whole squad.

yes. I got so annoyed by it I deleted all of that and boy it`s nice now. Now I can dogfight without being told off for doing the right thing!! It has no bad effects to the game at all. I even swapped some speech so if I get hit slightly, crashland or if the wingman loses fuel, the leader will now say, "Are you ok?" Instead of the "Return to base", which he`d say even if you had crashlanded. It adds to the immersion when the words actually make some sense...

What speech files are the offending ones and how can I safely remove them?

The American one is just as annoying!! "Crrrappp, stay with you leader!" And the German one sounds really mean even if I don't understand German. Those German leaders really put up a fuss now. Just the tone of voice is enough to make you shoot them down. And if you shoot them down, then they cry like little girls or something. Were German men really that emotional??

I think they are here:
C:\Program Files\Ubi Soft\IL-2 Sturmovik Forgotten Battles\samples\Speech\US\Actor1

I just used the Sound Recorder to record my own, but it sounds crappy. Haven't tried it in the game yet.

I've replaced my rear gunner and flight leader Where the he11 are you files with quotes from The Simpsons, South Park and Monty Python.

Now, if I pull a moderately erratic manouevre, my rear gunner exclaims, in a Homeresque voice "oooh! I dropped my kabab!" If I happen to venture a little off course, my flight leader alternately informs me of either a) His hovercraft is full of eels, or b) that this is just like the gun he used in 'Nam.

Makes for a much more enjoyable flight experience.

Make or find a blank wav file and rename it to the one thats irritating and substitute. I did the same for Italian voice actor 1 saying Altitoodineh every five seconds and the Germans saying they have no googlies every time they can't do something. I think I've gotten rid of the Attention wavs for just about every country too. Helps a lot.
I'm thinking of making a long distance call to England to one of those naughty sex-talk numbers. Hopefully I'll get one with a fetching Yorkshire accent. When she starts with the, "First I'll slip my hand down my..." I'll interrupt and say what I'd really like to hear is Red one, this is control. Traffic is on the runway. Please go around. etc. etc.
I could record all these and convert them to .wav format. Hey presto! Instant ground controller speech pack http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/clap.gif

Does anyone know some good telephone numbers in Russia? I wouldn't mind a Litvak or Budanova speech pack either.

These are the files I renamed:

Stay_on_course.wav
Stay_on_leader_s_course.wav
What_the_Hell.wav
Where_are_you.wav
Where_your_are.wav

You'll find them in the country folders below ..\samples\Speech.

Remember, you can always play the .wav files and see if it's the offending phrase...

Hi Feathered_IV,
well if you ever manage to make something along that way I would be very interested!
As to those yelling turkies well if they really upset me I do take them under fire no matter if they are on my side or not, the only bummer are the big negativ points http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/shady.gif
As to the Germans well they are using just the same as the English fellows, maybe a bit rude and sometimes a ear sore (especially the call "hilfe ich st├╝rze ab" help me I am crashing) what the heck does that fellow think you are supposed to do? Maybe if you are in range give him a well aimed blast to shut him up? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/34.gif
