Whirlwind of Vietnam

I am personally very excited by this game, however I hope these were not the same project crew due to deliver our patch?

Love the idea of a choppa simulator set in vietnam where you can interact properly with ground troops and other aircraft in the area. It will also mean a lot more re-arm and refuel and fly back to the same area while avoiding the dangers along the way kind of missions I hope.

Imagine picking up your downed buddies in coop mode. Only thing is that I cannot see that their can be any viable enemy for deathmatch style missions. Unless a DM stle AA battery player is going to be allowed

This was already discussed here. Try browsing the forum before posting next time.

1C:Maddox Games doesn't have anything to do with this game. It is developed within the 1C corp. by another developer team and has it's own 3D engine, models, textures, etc.

I'd give a real money for a good helo-sim.

It's so long since I was able to fly in Janes LB2 the last time http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/cry.gif

Wow, maybe he would have if the &*( &#^$ search engine actually worked here huh?

It's been broke for months if not years and 1c has yet to fix it so why chastise him for asking an OT question.

It is little wonder I even bother coming here anymore with this prevailant elitist attitude.

1C has nothing to do with this forum. It is a Ubi product.

Im with Gonz on this one, this is a relatively new subject and there is NO reason to act like such a *****. Let the mods manage the boards ***hole.

Funny it's not made by Oleg's crew...those screenshots of the terrain bear a striking resemblance to the smoelenske map. Love the troopers running to board the chopper by the way...looks hot. Flying that metal coffin into a hot LZ with rounds flying all around sounds like it could be pretty intense...I hope the AAA and small arms fire are acurately modeled. It would really be a downer if the enemy was shooting spitballs against the hull as you got closer to touchdown.

Its about time we had a true sim dedicated to the Huey(Vietnam Medevac was ok but had its problems)Over the years Ive gotten real tired of flying gunships so Im really anticipating this new helo sim.

I hope to god its not just Mission based play though.I want campaigns!!!

You answered your question. The team is "G5 Software". The publisher is "1C". Oleg's "1C:Maddox Games" doesn't have anything to do with this project. If you don't believe me - ask Oleg. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/51.gif

P.S. When people will learn to use a correct grammar and punctuation on the forums?..

Its definite, 1C:Maddox Games is not involved.
Grammar/punctuation is as elusive as ever.
Your discussion of the sim, Whirlwind of Vietnam, is welcome.

is a joystick enough to fly a helicopter?

I think, it would be good to have a joystick with the separate throttle handle, like Saitek X-45 or Thrustmaster Afterburner II, or alike.
So you could use the throttle handle as collective.

Yeah, be sure. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif And don't even speak of 5.56 NATO. It will be just like a BB gun. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I personally just hope the game will modell the wooded hills and valleys correct. Should be cool to fly around this awesome topography, with clouds hanging over the forests and stuff.

Reminds me of the story I read about a SAR pilot in Vietnam, who rescued 2 wounded soldiers from the front line, that were wounded badly. Their only chance was to get them to the MASH. But the effort to get them out as quickly as possible got him caught right in a firefight and his helo was hit. He lost the oil-cooler. While he managed to get out of the area with his 2 wounded passengers, there was no way to bring the helo back to base. Instead he landed at a free place he could reach before the engine was wrecked, left the helo and the 2 passengers, ran further forward through the jungle, searched for the next landing place and when he returned, the engine had cooled down enough to start again. He "Jumped" to the zone he had found, landed there and did the same thing again. Several hops were neccessary, but he got the 2 men home safely after all. If I remember correctly, he got the CongressionalMedalOfHonor for that.

Good on him! There a book I hangin out for at the local library, Chicken Hawk or some such. About Huey pilots in Vietnam, can't wait.
Here's another story of good bloke:

"After the crash Sergeant Butriss, who found himself to be in reasonable order, noticed LAC Farr lying outside the aircraft, but still with his safety belt on. Sergeant Buttriss told LAC Farr to get clear of the aircraft and at the same time he dragged one of the army passengers through the starboard cargo door onto the ground some yards away. He then returned to the burning aircraft and attempted to drag the second army passenger clear, but his pack was snagging on the aircraft. As he pulled the pack off this soldier and dragged him clear through the left hand-door, Sergeant Buttriss noticed that Flight Leftenant Dohle had left the aircraft. On returning to the aircraft a second time, Sergeant Buttriss attempted to tilt back the seat; he tried to lift Flight Leftenant Peter Middelton out over the top but as he lifted him he noticed that the Flight Leftenant's right foot was jammed against a big tree which had penetrated the front of the aircraft on the left hand side and the centre console of the aircraft. Sergeant Buttris ran to the front of the aircraft and tore away parts of the front in an effort the free Middleton's leg. While he was back in the aircraft again, a flame shot out of the bulkhead and singed his hair. Sergeant Buttris then sprayed the flames with a fire extinguisher but to no avail. As he was again struggling to life the Flight Leftenant out, two soldiers arrived. The Sergeant told one solder to lift Middleton through the side door whilst he and the other soldier pulled off the front of the aircraft. Eventually the got the co-pilot clear and behind some rocks then returned for the other army passenger who was still lying beside the aircraft. Just as everyone was safely behing rocks the aircraft ammunition began to explode and the fire became intense as the explosives cargo began to burn."

Sergeant Buttris received the George Medal

1C is a large publishing house based in Russia that markets to the CIS (former Soviet states). Oleg's Maddox Games company is one development house amongst a large collection.

This is not where the resources went.

1C is alot like UbiSoft. Publishing houses...that'd be like saying that Forgotten Battles was interfering with resources to build Splinter Cell but no thats not true...totally unrelated.

Not quite. 1C primarly is a software developing company. Their main product is accauntant/enterprise management software.
Their department, 1C:Multimedia is Russia largest game publisher AND developer. 1C:Maddox Games is also a part of the 1C group, and currently is subordinated to the 1C:Multimedia.

Initially, Maddox Games was independant developer company, belonging to Oleg. But he had to join the 1C group in order to get funds for the IL-2 development.

As I understood, the studio, which makes the "WoV" game, followed Oleg's way, from independant developer to a part of the 1C group (though, I may be wrong here. Anyway, I'll find out, when I'll be at Moscow next week http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif).

In either case, as IceFire wrote, all 1C:MG resources is now thrown to the 4.0 add-on development and the development of the "WoV" doesn't interfere with the FB/PF 4.0 in any way.
