A while ago we were talking about playing the game in real time here on the forums.
A few people stated that they planned on playing this way using no time compression.

Just wondering if anyone is actually doing it?
LOL if you are how is it going for you? Please share your stories. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I think I might do 1 patrol in real time if I get a mission thats close to base.

It would take a few days but it sure would be interesting. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Sort of, but not really.

Best I can do is to leave the sim running overnight. Obviously I'm sleeping for a good portion of that time so, if got attacked/sunk then I'd have to reload.. but it's nice feeling that as I sleep the boat keeps moving http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I try to do it (using time accel, paradoxically) so that I get the same time ingame that I'm actually at in real life - so if I'm off to bed at midnight, I run the time accel to get to midnight (night time helps for not being spotted as well!)

It quite cool in the morning to wake up and see where I'm at. I've not woke up sunk yet! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I was thinking that, about when people said they'd do that. Looking at it I thought its impossible. I was in a patrol zone. To cover the area well, I make a zig zag route. I ask my nav guy how long till the end of this patrol route, he said on one of them 50 hours! That would mean you'd have to leave the game running for 50 hours. You could do it, go to work etc etc. But what if a ship is spotted while your at work, homes in on your and your sunk.

So I don't think it would be possible.

I would LOVE to do a real-time patrol sometime, but that's kinda hard - I mean, month-long patrol will take even the most dogged simmer 3-4 months to play through in full-real time (if they have a life, which MOST of us do).

But hey, that's the beauty of this game - it says nowhere that you CAN'T. And when someone does - I'll do a http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/11.gif with a bit of a http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/34.gif

It is possible - im doing it, i work from home and i got the game on one screen my work on another etc. Its tough real tough lol, but im curious to see how things might happen without superman speed.

so far Ive hit near the end of AN36 going towards the channel etc, it has taken me 2 days so far to get from kiel to that spot.
I have only been buzzed by one aircraft of unknown origin while near Kristiansand, and i was told of a contact further WSW of there but i have decided to not go looking it seems its green so probably one of mine.

Im on my way to BF17 so god knows what will happen, although i have predicted its prob a 2 week realtime patrol, thats one way as well. When ive done it I will then decide if im to go back the same way or finish it the easy way.

lol all fun anyway.

I did my first patrol in real time. I would leave the computer on while I slept if it was on the way to the patrol zone. I know some people complained about little shipping to be found, but some patrols didn't find anything at all either. I really can appreciate the boredom followed by the tension once you do run across a ship to attack. I am also glad I had my gramophone tunes, 30s - 40s German film tunes CD that I had picked up while in Germany and then I saved as MP3 into the gramophone folder to keep me busy. I also read Steel Boat, Iron Hearts by Hans Goebler during the time. Really interesting read. I've decided though, because I have other things I have to do, I might cheat a bit with time compression for the rest, but then over the summer do some more patrols in real time. Really interesting though to try it once. Will be more fun in real time when we have fully modeled sub, and everything works. . more things to take care of and check out that way. I also docked into the port when I finished the patrol. It was cool to see the band waiting for me .. and all my men at attention as I guided the ship into the dock. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I'm on my way to BE96, left from Kiel. So far I'm on day 6 I think passing Brest. Along the way I destroyed one marchant. Careful around Dover, you'll run into a few destroyers and torpedo boats! And more merchants of course, which are real tempting to destroy... But I've run into enough destroyer traffic to change my mind. So I'm continuing my route towards my patrols zone.

By the way, those torpedo boats come out of no where so keep a good eye out. Not even close to my patrol box and my hull integrity is at 84%.

I think I might give it a try on my next patrol.
My base just got switched to Brest and I have been being sent to the west of the english channel on the last couple patrols and I have a strong feeling that is where I will get sent again. If they do send me there this will be the perfect setup for a real time patrol because it is not too far away.

I could do it in a few days using flank speed (plenty of fuel) and alt-tabbing on the computer and just doing other things part of the time.

Imagine if you were to do this and be lucky enough to run into a convoy. It would be more intense than time acceleration could ever provide. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I take my yacht to Hawai'i every summer, during the 3 weeks I spend at sea I'm going to kill time playing SH3, I want to do one patrol in realtime during the first few days, before I get into the deep Pacific and have to focus on other things.

What's the point of being 100% realistic? You can't even go visit the engine room... What's the point?
