View Full Version : "Wings over Waves"...dumb title

This will be my most trivial post in any forum and I hate to do it, but after "Flaming Cliffs" and now "Wings Over Waves", I can't help but say, what a couple of lame titles. Perhaps they are poor translations from another language, but dang, as they are, they suck. They don't sound right at all and are corny at best.

Russian and German translation I believe. Its really not that bad...the content is what matters. Titles these days are just branding as they make no clever attempts to title anything anymore.

Interesting how Oleg more or less got the name Forgotten Battles dead on, I mean, few in the west knew of the Russian air combat aircraft of WWII or of the multiple areas fought in the East.

`IL2 Sturmovik` was a little too obscure (and one of the reasons I never touched it for ages), but I guess it shows that if something is good enough, even a name like `Sturmovik` won`t prevent it becoming a star among sims... eventually. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I heard they tried some other names...

"Wings Under the Waves" - sounds like you get shot down a lot.

"Wings over Troubled Water" - Folk songs went out in the '70s.

"Zeros, Kates and Vals, Oh My!" - The Dorothy model was submitted, but Oleg said the cockpit wasn't good enough.

"Hell in (most of) the Pacific" - sounds too much like there's maps missing.

"Torpedo...." Nah. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/51.gif

While you're here...
Is there any other way to pay for the add-ons other than by using Paypal? I have had difficulty getting Paypal to work.
I would prefer to pay by credit card (Visa). I see that they are selling the add-ons at Flying Legends...but when I tried to order the only option there was to pay by Paypal too. Wouldn't it be possible to order by visa from there...they have a Visa symbol at the bottom of the page so it must be possible to order other items on the site by Visa.
I'll PM you a copy of this ...please reply here so that all can read your reply...I think that quite a few of us are interested in making a purchase (or two) !

I e-mailed pulse wave and asked this exact question. The respons was that they will only take payments in the two described methods. I have not purchesed their product for the same reason you have stated and wish they would change policy. There is so little out there as far as pay add ons for the Pacific that it would be great if they had more options for their potential customers.

Hello Mj Setback, Ronison,

until now we can't recieve credit card payments directly, only via PayPal.
I don't know how it is in the US but here in Germany it's too expensive to enable this for such a little shop.
That's why I decided to do it via Paypal which is very easy to do. Here paypal is about to become a standard for payments with credit card.

We're still working on the pay per download thing which btw has become a project much complicater than ever expected.
Last week I have ordered the 3rd team to try to make it working properly.

So all I can say is sorry

Many greetings from cold Germany,

Same at Flying-Legends, soon we will have a store full of merchendise to offer.
We are currently working over the details to offer more forms of payment, with the credit card companies there is the issue of fees owed to the creditors for using thier service, with Pay Pal that is all taken care of.

Paying in the form of check or money order is also another prefered method, but then there is the issue of exchnge rates. Deano and the site are located in the UK and I'm located in the US, so this is going to help as far as taking care of orders and where they will ship from.

In due time we will have the system set up to offer the best service possible to you.

No, I'm an Englishman living in Sweden. I'm having them sent here (Sweden). I'm a bit worried about the postage cost as it wasn't stated on the site..either before or after making out the order!

Still.. as long as it's not astronomical I'll be happy!

Thanks. From what I could figure it looked like the shipping was 14 and the title was 19 and thats euros(?) I think? Not sure of the exchange rate, but thought that the shipping cost here to the states a little steep. I have played the demos and they are quite good. Hopefully they'll get a download option up soon.

Each title is only 19.90 Euro (24.40 dollars)!
Shipping costs are high though...very.

Shipping costs:

They will ship up to 4 CD/DVD of software for the same price though.

They charge 18 dollars (14,9 Euro) to ship to the US, so it would pay to order several titles (for the same cost).

This is for Flying Legends,

I think I have seen this in another post but here it goes again. The store has paypal listed as currrent method of payment. Will you ever have other means of payment? Most publishers are
in Europe and only accept Euros and Paypal only.
Your site shows Visa and Master card and what the price would be in dollars. I do understand that the exchange rate and credit card processing fees can be expensive. Would it not be worth the cost so sell more of a product over time? The shipping cost for me at some places is too much to even consider buying from overseas. Most US retailers have only the basics
when it comes to IL2 add ons. I'm counting AEP and PF as those basics. That is really sad for such a fantastic sim. I have purchased quite a few add ons. I have six besides AEP and PF. I do not own the others due to the complexities mentioned before. (PayPal, Euros only. and shipping cost) The only aswer I can come up with is to have more Distributors. I can only assume that If a product makes it big in Europe, then it will find its way to the U.S.A.
Your new shop has a great oportunity to sell a lot of merchandise. Please, work hard on accepting other means of payment. I see digital downloading as future for your type of business as well. I have to mention the distributor Matrix games. For $20.00 one can download good add ons. Yes it has its drawbacks for the consumer and the business. But why not capitalize on this. Advertise. "Why pay through the nose for you favorite sim" Download your copy today at_________ . http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif You have aquired the rites to distribute from PWX just invest in the future and Help us Add on deprived Simmers put money in your pocket http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/cry.gif Did I mention lack of over the counter places to purchase here. Please accept my international Postal money order in dolars Please... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif

Regarding AH_BlueKestral's question.

This is what we are setting up now, I'm located in the U.S., so we are working on having me ship items also , this will allow us to ship from the most convient place at the lowest cost.
Sometimes it is even cheaper to ship from the US overseas to other areas. By having two shipping locations we will be able to offer better service to more people at rates that will be equal too or better than any competitor.
As mentioned earlier we are working on ways to accept more forms of payment, we realize not everyone has a credit card, or want to pay that way. The issue currently is just a matter of sorting everything out, there are fees, exchange rates, commisions for services, legalities (you can;t ship software to some parts of the world) etc that need to be considered and we want to offer our goods with as little added cost to the customer.

Within time as our store develops you will find numerous aviation related items, not just games, but books, dvds, apparel etc. this on top of some HUGE things to come for the site alone, so you'll want to keep checking in http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

As soon as items are ready to be shipped from the US also, it will be annouced at the site.
Again we feel as soon as this is set up we will be able to better serve our visitors!

S! all.
Thats what I'm talking about. I wonder how much would it cost to be a US distributor/retailer.?
I have access to a yahoo merchant account. Then of course E-bay. The pruchasing through pay pal Visa and Mastercard and even American express can be done on the site. The website I would need help on but, I have many talented members of my squadron to assist me, as well as Graphic designers at my local college looking for work. My business might start off with being an internet based business, however, when it comes to add ons for IL2FB. US retailers are more corporate minded. Rather than flight Sim minded. Even if others take up the challange and more growth appears in the US. More the better. "It's 100+ degrees and no water in sight" Contact me here at arcticblue05@yahoo.com with any details you might want to share.
