Not to mention they are also about the deadliest pistoleers since Wild Bill, they say. About the only aircraft I more dread in this game are Deathlyakov-8's and the Flying Boat of Doom also called the H8K1.

Needless to say: it's flying on autopilot http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/59.gif

I have a screenie like that at home, but it's a P-40 that lost it's entire rudder and half an elevator, yet I still had complete yaw control with no rudder control surface there, let alone even a rudder. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif

I shall when I get home. I don't know how you will tell that I still have yaw control, but trust me I could still use rudder like it was still there. A bug I believe.

I think I posted it somewhere around here already, but can't quite recall where.

Edit: I gripped this from another thread, but this is the damage I was talking about. I'll post mine later tonight.

Here's one of my P-40 shots. I overwrote the other grab.tga by mistake.

http://img521.imageshack.us/img521/3127/grab00015yo.jpg

I had full yaw control and by the looks of those wires connected to thin air, the game still thinks I have a rudder, too. However, rest assured it was shot off minutes earlier.

And of course, what would a thread about battle-damaged B-17s be without this link:

B-17s that came back (http://www.daveswarbirds.com/b-17/contents.htm)

Indeed, those are great shots. Quite funny with the antennas still in place.

I suppose you're referring to my post. Actually, the only aircraft I've had consistent success in against the Flying Boat of Doom is an Me-262 with the 50mm cannon; couple of hits from that thing and even the Flying Boat of Doom gets converted into confetti.
It's also funny seeing one of those in USAAF markings. We wish! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

In anything else the only way to be sure to get one is to ram...

http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/10.gif I think it was just a polite referral to the impending "Luftwhiningâ"ž˘ â®â©Ubi Forums" about how much damage the B-17 can take in-game. Not to mention the sniper-like USAAF gunners. Just like mom's apple pie and beef stew made them. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

The .50s seem plenty effective to me. That's the main reason I always attack B-17s from above and shoot the wing just outside of the outboard engine. Pe-8s also go down like twigs if you shoot there.

the android ability of bomber gunners is the reason it is a BIG mistake for misn blders to make their bombers, of any type but especially B17s, any skill level but rookies......all but one or two in a formation anyway. Eveen then, they are still plenty dangerous, but at least you can get close enough to kill them on one pass if you shoot well enough.

WHile ive seen B17s with that amount of damage in photos come back, that missing verticle and horizontal stab will bring a fihgter right out of the air.

This was no attempt to whine about the Fort's toughness.

I was just pleased how well the rugged 17 is modelled in this game http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

This reminds me offline campaign which I play now ( Crimea 1942 ).

I was Bf-109F4 and attack two Yak-1... burst of machinegun and cannon, saw that Yak pilot bail out, so I take another target ( second Yak ).

WHen everything is peaceful I tap Ctrl+F2 to see and there flies that first Yak http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-surprised.gif

No rudder, open canopy but no pilot http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif

And soon after that my game crash to desktop and must start again http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Concerning bombers...if u attack from behind ur death mean... Just attack side to side with speed and it will be just too easy. I have managed to down 8 B17s this way and not even got shot once.

Don't sweat it; I took it entirely in humor. My reply was intended entirely in a good natured manner. Sorry if it was taken otherwise.

There is an interesting reference on that site, posted earlier in the thread too, to a B-17 that took a hit from a ground based anti-aircraft rocket that wazzed off an engine and into the cockpit area during a raid on a V-2 site. Very interesting I thought and despite a cursory google on the subject I'm none the wiser. Anybody know 'owt more?

Just dont shoot the wings outboard of the engines. One hit and they light up like a zippo.

In real life, that's because you could still 'steer' using the engines. (Assuming most of them still worked http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif ) Using throttles in unison also gave some measure of pitch control, as could moving crew members back and forth from nose to tail.
