Now if the RAF wouldn't have allowed those mustaches, the Spit would have been waaay faster then the 109 and 190

Yeah thanks Copper http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif Most of us in the UK already know and appreciate the efforts of your servicemen & women in saving Western Europe from the twin evils of Fascist and later Communist expansion. I'm surprised you feel the need to jump in and do the 'who pwn'd who' thing? You court opening up the 'while you were making your minds up.....' and 'if it wasn't for Pearl Harbour' argument - which just gets really painful for everyone.

It's quite fair to suggest that the RAF won its war, from the point of view of surviving the conflict intact as an organisation still capable of taking the fight to its enemy. Reducing the thread to a bunfight about the size of your country's contribution to freeing the enslaved countries of Europe is ridiculous.

Try this exercise: Imagine how it would be if the Nazi regime had actually successfully invaded Britain, thereby opening up the entire Atlantic to Axis navies? And if the Japanese had waited until British influence had been suppressed before launching a pre-emptive strike? Or if the Ribbentrop-Molotov agreement had stayed in place and Hitler hadn't launched Barbarossa after Operation Sealion was abandoned?

We might all be saluting a different flag today had it not been for the defeat that an under-equipped, undermanned RAF inflicted on the Luftwaffe in the period known as the Battle of Britain. We'll never know if a victorious Germany would have inveigled the USSR into forming an alliance against the US once British influence was swept away. There is perhaps more common ground between totalitarian states than those whose society is based on freedom of speech for all, regardless of creed or colour.

So the RAF did achieve a war-winning victory which goes beyond dispute I believe. In fact they did so many times - but it takes more than single victories to end a war. It took the combined effort of the entire Allied forces over a sustained period of years. Without the USA's gallant input we could not have achieved that end - but it's arrogant to assume that America would have had a better life for staying out.

It's this particular attitude that makes people forget the good side of the American culture and its people. While the world's religions all agree that a rich man giving alms to his poorer neighbours is a good thing, there's nothing that suggests he should then spend his time rubbing his neighbours' nose in it!
