Actually you are wrong...

yes there is a way to fly the B-17

If do a search for "how to make AI planes Flyable" you will find out that theres a way to make an online server with the planes that are only AI controlled offline, player flyable online... you only get to fly from the outside, but its still fun to dork around with.

And when you do the search you find this thread wich has the answer to that..

Ok, in that sense your right. But with a sim like this, why on earth would you want to "fly" a B-17 like that. Anyway, most servers that I have found on HL have outside views disabled.

So, in that sense.....no....you can't.

Besides I would imagine that he was referring to some kind of addon or patch that would enable the full use of the B-17, i.e. cockpit, gunner positions, etc. But I'm only guessing.

Well its still controling the airplane... so it is flying...granted when i tried to accurately bomb something i was having a real interesting time doing so, but its still better than nothing.

tho i would have liked to try being a gunner in a b17 sometime.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Speaking of gunners, something I've never noticed before regarding the Ju88 : In the docs reference is made to the fact that its gunner positions are not player controllable due to design limitations. This implied (to me) that the positions were totally non occupiable. Until I discovered that you can be a spectator. Still can't do that in a B17 though.

ps well my Ju88 jest got better hahaa. I swear though the game has changed behaviour when it comes to switching positions. It used to be that a position's aotopilot would automatically switch on when you left it. Now you have to switch autopilot on manually before you leave. Or some long forgotten setting. Or whatever.

The second half of your post suggests you have (re)discovered the fact that you can't control a gunner when its autopilot is on but if you switch it off (including in the Ju88) you can control it. The one gun you can't control (which is the reference in the manual/readme you referred to) is the Left Dorsal gun.

To get the behaviour you're used to back, find the control "Toggle Level Stabilizer" in the Misc section of the control screen and assign a key. Pressing that key in game will turn autopilot automation back on, pressing again will turn it off.

In the controls screen in the game it's called Toggle Level Stabilizer, even though it shows up in in the HUD as "Autopilot Automation On/Off" when you press the assigned key.

Edit: OOOPS, I retract my statement.... in the 1946 install it's been changed http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif Toggle Level Autopilot it is.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">
