I have good news for some of you. A few months ago, Ubisoft announced the Uplay Passport, which is a code included with a new game and needed to play online. However, according to fudzilla.com, chances are that it won't be included in any future Ubisoft games. Read the full story here: http://fudzilla.com/home/item/...pedal-on-online-pass (http://fudzilla.com/home/item/23974-ubisoft-forced-to-backpedal-on-online-pass)

Just so you are aware...

The Driver Uplay Passport being made free - was due to a printing error - in the US - the codes were printed wrongly..

'Due to a printing error on the insert of some copies of Driver: San Francisco in North America, Ubisoft has elected to provide the Driver Uplay Passport content for free. Although this problem does not affect players outside of North America, we have decided to mirror this offer to everyone in the world in order to be fair to all our players.'

So rather than force people to contact support to get them altered - it was decided to make the Driver passport free for everyone.. who owns Driver San Francisco.. [notice the name of the game?]

That's the only game it's free on at present.

So you should not assume that ACR will not use it, since the only reason it was released for free - was due to an error - which I am sure they will correct for future titles.

However you should always check the official sites for any updates on this http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Okay, thanks for the clarification Mr. Shade http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
It's just the fact that they wrote "Ubisoft has not said how long the Uplay Passport will be free, but we suspect that it could be free forever at this point" that made me think it might really be removed completely. Anyway, doesn't matter for me at all http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Anyone can write a news article after all http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

There is no official announcement that it will remain free, so anything you see on external sites, if not from an official source - should be considered rumor.

But I try and point things out, before the trolls run with it and start shouting at release.

It was made free for one game, due to the reason above.

Wait, so if you want to play a Ubisoft game online, you have to pay now? Or do you only have to pay for certain things, like upgrades and stuff?

You have to have bought the game first-hand.

Right... it's just the sort of code most of the big game developers are using already. You'll have to enter it to be able to use the multiplayer. Every code is only usable once, so if you buy a game pre-owned and want to play online, you'll have to buy a Uplay passport which costs around 10 bucks I guess.

Oh I see. So that means most new games won't have free online play? Great. -_-

If you buy most of your games brand new then you shouldn't be affected by this at all.

as the above poster said. This just affects pre-owned/second hand/used copies.

If you buy the game new, you get a one time use code in the box allowing access to extra modes / online game modes and extra content.

If you buy it second hand, then you may have to buy that access from the consoles store for a small fee - if the code has already been used by the first owner.

And usually when I buy a game with an MP I buy it close to its release, because why get an online game ages after its release and then there are no players left to play with?
