I also have the uncut version on video, I taped
it a couple of years ago from the TV so it's in
six parts. Before this I had only seen the
director's cut version. The uncut version beat's
the cut version hands down. A lot of detail of
life aboard, the boredom, excitment, tension, and down right fear felt by the crew comes to the fore much better in the full length version. I'm hoping to get it on DVD for Christmas, then like the advert say's, it's mine to keep, forever!!!

I watched it when it first came on TV back in the '80s. I now have both versions on video. I prefer the 5-hour version because I think it's more atmospheric and more suspenseful than the 'movie' version.

I've seen the full 6-part TV series. It's now available on DVD and I think it's the version to have. It runs for 282 minutes over two discs, but with only one set of opening and closing credits.

I never got to see the television release (was it ever shown in the States?), but I bought the DVD the day it was released and it is FANTASTIC!

I don't think the mini-series was ever shown in the US (though I may be wrong). I saw it in England when I was living there.
