Hi Guys ,

I found a flight sim IL-2 Sturmovik in a cheap place so I brough it last week .Next I buy a joystick and am forever sitting here trying to fly .
http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_razz.gif
Next thing I am buying Il-2 Forgotten Battles it arrives tommorrow .

Trouble is I am bloody useless at the moment .
But i must admit one thing. It is the fastest sim game i have played todate and may be its getting addictive.Any advise on using the tutorials with the first Il-2 or does the next stand alone game come with them ?
Any advice is welcome look forward to meeting many in the skies some time soon .
next i will read the practice tips for new comeers
Cheers
Mike

Welcome! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Yes - Forgotten Battles (FB) does have tutorials but you might as well pick up Ace Expansion Pack (AEP) & Pacific Fighters (PF). Those three can be installed together thus giving you more than 100 flyable planes & you will be able to go online with the rest of us.

Hey Mike welcome aboard!

Congratulations, you may of just discovered two of the most addictive substances known to man; IL2 and these forums!

For turorials and the other good stuff, go check out the 'IL2 Essentails' sticky on the top of the General Discussion page, it has all the links to the utilities, guides, skins and other community based addons that make this sim great. Similarly, if you see a post by one of the moderators called "Bearcat" just click on the link in his signature (or sig for short).

My advice for you is be patient with the game, it rewards it. Start in the deep end at full difficulty level, you wont regret it, trust me. Learn the ins and outs of the game. Fly until you have mastered one or two planes against the AI, then go and download HyperLobby (there is a link found in the essentials page) and test your skills online. BE warned however, there are aces in the virtual skies and you will get shot down. LOTS, if your like me.

Also, go and buy the Aces Expansion Pack and Pacific Fighters. They contain more US, British, German, Russian and Japanese fighters, more maps, game improvements and adjustments and if you want to join a game at Hyperlobby you will need Pacific Fighters, if only for compatability reasons. It may sound like a little outlay initially but i have been flying this game for about 4 years now and it is WELL worth it!

Otherwise, welcome to the greatest serise of flight sims of all time!

Welcome to the insanity,be afraid,be very afraid, once hooked this can cost you thousands.Once started down this road there is no turning back,do not adjust your set,we have control of the vertical,we have control of the horizontal. This leads to self mutilation as you battle the forces of evil and find you cannot win.
Going dowwwwn????he,he,he. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/59.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif

Track IR is a useful tool if you rhave $100 spare.

www.naturalpoint.com (http://www.naturalpoint.com).
other than that I think you should concentrate on getting the essentials, AeP and PF is a must, so you can join this great community.

as for flight skills I learnt all I needed to know by joining a squad.

Hi and welcome!
Choice of stick / configuration is really important not to be discouraged by this game.
I'm not shure what kinda stick you have, but minimum requirements as I see it:
1. Not Logitech (They make working sticks, but they last max 2 months in the hands of an FB addict - oh yea u will become one http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif )
2. Throttle control.
3. Rudder control eg twisting handle OR rudder pedals. Essential for prop sims like these.

Saitek Cyborg 3d or EVO are decent newbie sticks.

A good explanation on stick setup here:

Hey ya Mike.... Welcome aboard..... For a stick you might want to try here (http://store.yahoo.com/saitekusa/recprod.html). You cant beat the price with a stick. Hit the Sturmovik Essentials link in my signature and keep it in your faves. There are tons of great links in that one link. Airwarfare.com is hands down one of the best if not the best overall sim sites EVER. Also check out these user made utilities..... Shift E's VAC, Uber Demon's software, IL2 Manager, IL2 Mat, IL2 STAB, DGEN and the DCG. mAll this of course will take time.. so be patient and remember to have fun.

Howdy Mike! You're in for a lot of fun with the game and the wacko community of simmers. As far as the game goes, the essentials are (1) keep your speed high and (2) get real close before shooting. As far as the forums go, you need to know right off the bat that (1) all of the planes are over- and under-modeled, and (2)all patches will be released two weeks from whatever date it currently happens to be. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Nice one Vig http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gifThe IL2 series in a nutshell
My only advice is stick with it,learn from more expeirenced players, get used to picking shrapnel out of your teeth, and one day you to will know the thrill of an "on-line" kill
