View Full Version : My New Hobby. (Pics)

Some pics from the updated sim: WWII Fighters. I wanted something to take my mind off waiting for the patch to FB, and now I seem to have a new hobby that I will probably engage in for years to come. WWII Fighters has become a "Hacker's Game", and as such, fair online gameplay is no longer possible. Changing terrains, and using SQZip to hack into the source code to add modifications takes time, but it has been a great learning experience. And what great 3rd party stuff has been created! Enjoy /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

A 109 avoiding fire. Notice the tracer effect. When viewed during the simulation there is a slight "wobbling" of the tracers, as well as smoke from the guns. This effect was created using the 3rd party "Smokey Tracers" addon.

And how about this for help with deflection shooting!

Here's a shot of a beautiful stick, modelled by someone named "Rammjager". I don't know how "acurate" it is, but hey, who cares! The textures are unbelievable!

http://www.world-data-systems.com/aerofiles/albums/userpics/RammjagersStick.JPG

And finally, here's another shot of Rammjagers pit. The gauges are covered with reflecting "glass", and is the coolest effect I have ever seen in a virtual pit. (Notice I am able to lean to the left, and then turn my head. Any view is possible!)

Well, there ya go! I'd never abandon my beloved IL2/FB, but there are things in WWII Fighters that I cannot get from IL2. In time I know that will change. Just wanted to give everyone a diversion while we wait for our patch, and hopefully to settle us down a bit. SALUTE!

Very beautifull indeed! is this an old and very updated sim? or something new on the market?

A very old sim that some die-hard enthusiasts have managed to keep alive by creating addons. The most exciting of which, to me, are the new flight models. Stall and spin characteristics are not perfect, but are definitely there now. The graphics engine very much resembles IL2. Interesting that Oleg has said that WWII Fighters was at one time his favorite sim.

Bump.

Not trolling for replies. I know some look without posting. It took a little time to upload these, and I wanted to make sure that everyone gets a chance to see them. Especially the cockpit viewing pic. I'd kill to have those views in FB!

I dusted off my WWII fighters too, I love that to this day. Especially since it has the P-51 and P-38 on top of my Jug. Where do I get these add-on's? I would love to have the stall/spin model and any other more realistic stuff for it.

Yes an excellent sim. A bit long in the tooth even with the new stuff, but nice none the less.

Is this sim flyable online?

yeah I have been loving this good old game too. The patches/addons/ upgrades have been great. As far as online play, wont work in HL if you modify the original game at all, I tried it already. Not sure of any online gaming beyond HL. The best forum for this game is also down too.

Eagle, and everyone else, the WWII Fighters site moved last week. It is NOT down, and is the best place to get mods, and addons. http://www.janesww2fighters.net/
There is a cd that you can order that contains ALL the addons created for the sim since Feb. 2003. The best part: Its FREE!!!! They only ask for $4.00 for the shipping and the price of the CD.

RGR that Eagle, and what I meant to say was that the free addon cd from the site had all the 3rd party stuff up TILL Feb 2003. Quite a compilation, and is called the "base mods" cd. Make sure that you get the original flight models to install for when you want to fly online. Hyperloby screens for cheating, and even though the addons make the FM's WICKED, you are seen by the lobby as a cheater. Hope to see ya soon, and allow for some time to learn how to use the SQZip program to add and remove mods. It is fun to learn, but there is a bit of a curve.

How's it work with XP?

And how does it compare to "Attack Squadron" which is also by Jane's?

Thanks
