Hi,

Anyone have any information on what Tu2 squads got up to in the eastern front? I've always used these as high speed level bombers in missions .. today I threw some in for fun in a UQMG mission, and accidentally told them to attack enemy aircraft.

Bloody hell, they've got two cannons in the forward wing roots!

Did they strafe targets, intercept bombers, or what, with those things?

The Tu-2 was used only for level bombing during the war. there were plans to make a Sturmovik version, the various armaments were to include a 75mm or a 57mm gun in addition to the two 23mm in the wing roots. Another version had two 45mm NS-45 guns and two 37mm NS-37 guns under the nose.
A fighter version developed had two NS-45 guns under the nose, two 23mm cannon in the wing roots and Gneis radar. presumably this was intended as a nightfighter.
