Mid Atlantic Air Museum's 17th Annual WWII Weekend June 1-3 2007 (http://www.maam.org/maamwwii.html)

Ok folks. I was there in 06 & 05. I met Ivan, Hunter,Fox,Protos,Wayneo, and a bunch of other guys. It isn't too pricey, and it was loads of fun... grab your sons and hit the road. This year it looks like the Me-109, Pit and Hurri that we were all looking for last year will be there... weather permitting as usual... My boy and I will be there for 2 days.... don't know which two yet.. but we will be there. I may be able to get 99th_Viper & 99th_Obsidian to come as well. Just an early bid... hope to see some of you there.

I recommend that you do the following if you decide you want to go:

1-Get your tickets in advance. The lines get long. Plus it is a few bucks cheaper.

2-Go for at least two days. My son and I will be getting a motel room. There are several not too far away and the rates are reasonable. There is so much to see and by going for at least two days you can catch everything.

3-Bring shades, comfortable shoes etc..... and be prepared for rain. For the past two years it has been iffy on at least one day.

4-Bring spending cash. Lots of good stuff.... and dont forget your camera.

5-Try to get there early...

More to follow.

my reenacting unit is there every year (15th recce). we have an encampment so stop by. Last year there was about 20 flying aircraft including a lancaster and some other rare birds. Also flea market, battles, and more then i can mention. Just look for the british armored cars and come by and say hello. HOpe to see some of the community there.

I will definatley be there again this year and hopefully more VMF-214 will come as well. As it stands now you can expect to see my ole pal VMF-214_Pappy as well. He comes home from Afganistan in late Feb or first week in March.

Well if they want to come of course there is no reason not to. However in my case.... and I am sure I am not alone.... I dont think I will subject myself to spending two days... at 12 - 18 hours a day... walking around static military displays with someone who is not interested in the least bit... and whatever intrest she would have would more than likely be dead and buried after day one. No thanks.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Reminds me of the story someone told on this board recently, about being at the pub and overhearing a conversation:

She: "You never do things with me, you never take me anywhere except for this damn pub anymore."

He: "Bollocks.... didn't I take you to the Tank Museum with me just last week?"<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

I just got back, sunburnt as hell but I had a great time. For those of you guys who were at the show today, I'm sorry I missed you, I spent some time looking but couldn't find anyone. I thought the Yak was one of the best displays today. I spent a good hour of today teaching people about the Yak while I stood next to it. Attracted some new fans, I think! I'll have pics up in a bit.

I just got back. I left at around 4:30 PM. It's now 12:20AM. It was a hell of a drive (partially due to I-78 being closed to eastbound traffic. That added 2 hours to the trip alone.)

On one hand, I found the show disappointing. The 109 didn't show, the Hurricane did all of one pass, and the P-51 and P-40s left almost unannounced shortly after noon. The P-47 and F4U were also no shows. The weather really put a damper on things.

On the other hand, the Yak-9 stole the show. The pilot was really aggressive and then stood around answering questions and speaking very candidly about his aircraft. It was great even just seeing the Yak and the Hurricane in person.

Bearcat: Were you hanging around the MAAM hangar? I swear that somebody in there looked a lot like you.
