After a long hiatus, I am trying to get back into SH3. My old computer had it's final voyage three months ago (motherboard fried during a thunderstorm). So I saved, and saved some more. Now I finally have the rig that I want and I can enjoy SH3 will all the bells and whistles blowing.

First thing that I notice is that the community is still kicking and still very active. Now I'm completely out of touch with all the new mods that are out there, but I'm sure the old virtual sea dogs out there will remember me and fill me in!

Chat with y'all soon!

Welcome back AO1_AW_SW_USN - long time no see (no sea?)! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

It's always good to see someone from the 'alte Garde' return (as Celeon would say)

Could you please do me a favour and resize your Avatar graphic? It's currently 85KB and should be no more than 15KB! If you resize it to 64 x 64 pixels in your graphics software, that should knock the file size down a lot. If you get stuck, just let me know and I'll do it for you.

Welcome back! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

The latest super mod is Grey Wolves, and is very good with improved sound effects, the damage model is based on the NYGM Tonnage War Mod - basically ships are harder to sink and it puts more suspense as to when the ship will sink - gets rid of the one shot wonder.

You can download GW here (http://mpgweb.de/01/)

The monthly screenshot competition is in it's 5th month now and the competition is quite fierce with some excellent screenshots being posted.

There's quite a few new posters here with some of us regulars, also Viking Grandad is our resident and active moderator.

If there's anything I have missed I'm sure some others will make up for my short memory

Well, you may have to (if you don't mind). I'm not to computer savy when it comes to stuff like that. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_confused.gif

Thanks for the welcome back. I have to finish up the configuration of my new computer and then I'll be up and running again. Cost me a mint to obtain all the hardware it. Here's what I had compared to what I saved for and bought:

Old System:
AMD Athlon 64 +3000 Processor
Gigabite K8N nForce 3 Motherboard
Twin sticks of Dual Channel Corsair DDR PC3200 SDRAM (512MB each) for 1GB total RAM
PNY GeForce 6600GS APGX8 256MB Video Card
Thermaltake 430w Power Supply.
Western Digital 40MB IDE cable Hard Drive @7200RPM

New System:
AMD Athlon 64 +4400 X2 Dual Core Processor
Asus M2N32-SLI Deluxe NVIDIA n-Norce 570 SLI Motherboard
Twin sticks of Dual Channel Kingston DDR PC3200 SDRAM (1GB each) for 2GB total RAM
Two BFG GeForce 7900GTX PCI-E X16 (256MB each) Video Cards running with SLI Technology for 512MB total video RAM.
Raidmax Volcano 630 Watt Power Supply
Western Digital 150GB SATA 10,000RPM Hard Drive

... am I bragging? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/winky.gif

Just under $2300 US Dollars.

That's a lot compared to what my budget allows. It's safe to say that there will be no more dining out for the next 4-6 months, I'll tell you that.
