DB-605.

I was lucky enough to hear "Black-6" before its unfortunate demise. The DB-605 whispers gently. It's much less strident than the roar of the Merlin or Griffon; as one might expect from the much lower specific power.

But then I haven't been fortunate enough to hear a BMW-801...

4000 hp is a lot for such compact design. It was only outmatched by a DB 619 with 5240 hp wich was two DB 609 mounted on couple (2660 hp).
That engine would be great if used on the He-177
