and I want to fly the p38 a bit, just for gigles.

Oh, I just remembered: I can't fly the p38 online because I always feel guilty when I join the red team because it always GREATLY OUTNUMBERS THE FRIKKEN BLUE TEAM.

So maybe i'll just fly around Canada in FS2004.

Funnily enough, on GreaterGreen a few hours ago, when we were on the Polish map with He-111 and Bf-109E4 vs P-11C, everyone wanted to be blue... it's a fickle world.

So I change sides every time I die to balance out the teams.

I don't know how many have noticed this but there seems to be a definite trend; early war I find the majority of players fly Blue. Battle of Britain, opening pacific battles and Barbarossa scenarios are all sloped numbers wise to blue. Mid war stuff -Moscow, Western Desert, mid war Pacific, are all roughly even, maybe red edging out blue in numbers slightly. Late war its all Red; Normandy, Berlin, late war PTO.

It seems that a lot of players fly the 'winning side' historically, given the particular scenario. I was on Greater Green last night (10:00 PM Tokyo time) flying a HUrricane in the Dunkirk scenario and it was 2 to 1 Blue on Red. All it mean was that there were more targets for my Hurricane. Switch of maps to the late war Crimea and all of a sudden the Blue players abandon their posts and Red dominates the numbers game.

Another reason I can't stand PF. I wouldn't mind it so much if I could fly online and get into a hellcat, but whenever I join a Pacific map there are 25 red and like 10 blue. Normally I will just balance, but I would rather fly an I16 than any Japanese planes (including ki84). So I just leave as to not continue the good plane pile on.

Of course, Philipscdrw!

It's only unbalanced, if red has late Spits and/or I-16. That's especially the case on servers with logged stats. I wonder why that is...... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif

This also bothers me greatly!

I rant frequently about it on Greatergreen. Everytime I join i make a point of joining the team with least players, however invariably one team has a 2:1 ratio. it sucks. i cant understand why people join, see a vastly inflated team and join it just cos all they could possibly fly was luft etc.

i hate pacific- exactly same reason, no one flys Japanese, and i hate the japanese planes....

bah!

maybe i should dry my eyes http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

I flew blue for awhile. Had a great fight with a spit (i was in zero). I gave up when some P39 jock kept exploiting the zero's flamability by spraying from impossible ranges. How I hate that, it seems unsporting to me.

I found the best fun in QMB. Zeros vs I-153 under bad weather. Its mad mad fun http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I fly arcade servers.
That way both red and blue teams have the same planesets... problem solved.

IMHO, the one thing this game is missing is the ability of the host or mission designer to limit how out of balance DF servers can be.

One of the reasons is blue pilots want to get familiar with their enemies for pure training reasons.

I fly almost solely Blue.. and times I like most is when blue is outnumbered by red. Much better to fight when there is plenty of targets and not enough of your own side to form up that konga lines behind a a single rare enemy

Human nature, being what it is, is the root of the problem here guys.

What we need is the ability to have a server-side setting for "auto-team selection". You join a server, and you are automatically assigned to a team to maintain balance.

We should also have the ability to force national markings, weapon loadouts, and limit the number of certain marks and variants of aircraft, in order to match the historical situation. That way we don't have every guy on a late war PTO server flying limited production planes, or have too many fighters, and not enough bombers, etc.

I also play a WWII FPS, called Red Orchestra, and similiar features are available for on-line play in this sim, so it is not out of the question.
