Hi guys

Was happily playing bf2 when i started getting weird graphical corruption in the form of green line down my screen.

quit and then restarted my puter to find the corruption evident even from the bios on startup. basically its permanent, tho by jiggering round with resolution ive got half the screen back!

now half my screen is permanently corrupted..

is this my graphics card gone? or could it be something else?

many thanks

Could be the graphics card or could be the monitor.

Is it an LCD or a CRT type screen? (an LCD is a flat panel)

Plug something else in to see. Also you might want to jiggle the cables to see if its loose.

I agree with Icefire. I had a video card go bad once a few years ago, and it simply dumped me into the bare-bones, 1970s-esque PC display. I don't think a bad card can display half the screen. personally I think it's the monitor

Have you switched to the built in graphics card to see if the corruption/tearing still occurs?

One of the exhibit computers that I care and feed (I work at a museum) got a yellow vertical line down it.

I hit it. Fixed.

Thanks for replies guys. @ Icefire its a crt monitor, quite old.

@Chuck- yeah i originally thought it was the monitor but now im not so sure. Ive basically unistalled the ati drivers, ive got a radeon 9800se and now i can get into windows. for example if i bring up the monitor control panel it doesnt display graphical corruption. also the nature of the corruption changes depending on whatever point my computer is during startup. i thought maybe if the monitor was gubbed the image would be permanent....

@dolemite- my friend says he will bring round an old geforce for me to try tomorrow. unfortunately i cannae use the onboard because i need a dongle

@nick- i usually hit stuff first too http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

im slightly the worse for wear by the way. beer number 6!!!!

Youd do yourself a big favour by enabling on board grphics and removing ur gf card. Then u will know for sure if its the card or the screen.

a 6600GT is near the same price and they are quite a bit faster than the 9800prs/xts. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Make sure you research it well. For example a 6600 is nowhere as good as a 6600GT....X800XTs are getting cheaper too...whats your budget?
