View Full Version : Solution for mic users?

I think I know a simple solution for people who (annoyingly) use mics. I think if your target is speaking through their mic while in your line of sight (i.e. on screen) they should become an open target. This meaning that they should then have a marker that starts off very faint but becomes more visible as they continue to talk. I would like to hear some opinions on this... so keep it serious and intelligent, please! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Terrible idea, I will never support the discouragement of using mics in a ps3 multi-player game. Co-ordination can make a team significantly more effective.

Thats so for any team with mics.

If you can hear them, yes, it should make them obvious.

Don't think you can hear enemies though, unless I am mistaken.

It's not so much to discourage the use of mics in the way to completely eradicate all communication in teams-- remember I gave a "in certain modes" answer options-- but more of a way to discourage the people who use their mics to troll. Say they are being loud and obnoxious but you can't tell which persona is the target, so as you approach the yelling target, they slowly become more obvious.

I am all for mic use in co-op modes, but more leaning towards it in wanted mode because of the annoyance that is usually found there. Trust me, people yelling profanity and singing and saying "there is nothing you can do because you don't own a mic" deserve to be easy pickings...

I think it should be as you approach them they become obvious rather than try and add a voice amplitude sensor to the game.

Well anything that makes obnoxious mic users easy pickings I am all in support of http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Absoultely not imo. I (i am one)
It's not tat frequently I play wanted, (seem to have appalling luck with kills getting stolen, so end up running, guess the rest) and tbf I do kinda suck at it. So last night I had no mates on, came in and thought well it's about tim ei tried to improve at wanted.

It's such a soul-less empty experience in my book, yes there can be obnoxious mic users in all games, but if i'm in a game with no interaction with players (beyond an occasional stab in the kidneys) i'd rather just go on single player.

I have made some very good friends on PS3 and xbox/PC purely by the possibly rather quaint idea of talking to people http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I think preferred options would be; individual volume controls for sound/game voice/player voice, a mute all option,or a mute player option.

Punishing players who like to socialise or interact in a cool way because som emic users are obnoxious is an idea that should go back to the drawing board, then the drawing board should be put in a box, then sent to sea, and the ship sunk.

It probably wouldn't hurt to throw a few mine around the area to prevent anyone diving there and resurrecting it.

And spread rumours about a curse there in best scooby doo fashin.

If it doesn't work (and it will most likely not be added to the game), then there is always muting... but that is always an inconvenience when you are actually playing and not waiting to respawn.

i can understand the frustration with 'bad' mic users, but it's hard to see how you can tweak a system that would unfairly punish some users.

Are you on the PS3? It's amazing how many MP games on there are full of people with no mics, way more than there was when I was on xbox.

And yeah, some really are a pain.

To ease that pain I usually sing constantly into the mic. People like that http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

They just need to add the ability to select a quick "mute all" option in the "Waiting for agents" screen.

And something like the OP's suggestion is a bad idea in team games, and not such a good idea in free-for-alls either.

Some people's mics will register minor noises they can't control, which won't affect other players, but will register to something tracking mic use - this is unavoidable for the player, and being penalised for it isn't fair.

A mute all option would be a much better idea, IMO.

i find mic users annoying especially when they talk with someone beside them in they're living room. if you dont talk with someone ingame then dont use it in my opinion :S but i dont think they should be punished for using it though, but the ability to mute the mics of others on your own console would be nice

If you go into the start menu and select "Abstergo Agents" (can be done in the lobby, should be available in the "waiting for agents" screen as well, but isn't), you can mute players with X on PS3 (A on XBox)

It's called muting them. I know on the xbox you can do it, just access the menu screen and I go to the Abstergo Agents option.

Almost every match I've played that wasn't with my friends were completely silent (I play on PS3), sometimes you get the one obnoxious player but it's easy to mute them.

I would be opposed to the "punishing" of mic users by adding symbols over their heads, might as well paint their personas in neon colors for wanting to be sociable.

I like talking with people during the game, communication is important during the game.

The funny thing is that almost everyone on this forum think there should be more use of the mic so it frustrates me our paths never cross :P

Sorry for my bad english btw.

Mics already do give players away, you can only hear other players when they are in a certain radius of you.

Had this great match where someone had a broken mic which was just blasting static constantly, whenever you heard it you know to just run in case he's your pursuer. Somehow he still managed to come first in a match or 2 despite being at such a disadvantage.

Mic users should use mic only in the co-op modes

Basically this. Am disappointed that Ubi didn't incorporate a single good feedback from the Beta.

That I was not aware of... I usually hear the same person from the other side when they use their mic.

Actually, they DID do what the beta players asked for in this - they made it so when you're in the game lobby, you can mute players (after the loading screen, but before the match starts)

If they expand it further, it'll be even better.

They also didn't give us a permanent "mute all" option.

But they did tone down (heavily) the volume of mics in comparison with the game music/sound effects, which was another important request.

And Advanced Wanted looks to have come from the beta's requests for a less accurate compass.

the thought of discouraging them is funny. But it actually shouldn't be done.

But funny XD

I normally mute everyone whilst in a match.

However i really dislike it when your (7/7) at the map and game type screen and you can't mute anyone. There should be an option to mute people everywhere, or at least keep them muted until the pre-game lobby.

I've decided players definitely shouldn't be muted by default, it's too funny.

Last night there were a couple of Americans with mics and I killed one of them with a casual walk up slowly incognito kill, and heard him shout 'argh, ' just because I killed him, which made me chuckle.

Then at the end of the match I heard him complaining that the match was because he kept getting killed before he got to his target, killed? in a game about assassins? surely not? D:

OK, I do use a mic, and it's a good way to let people know if a target is running in their direction, or advise a teammate to lure a chaser toward you so you can smoke them or something. Though in Wanted, it's pretty much useless. Having it to where opposing players can hear you speak once you get close enough would be good. But there is the option to mute some one who is just being annoying.

Had they took a few pages out of the right book like, GTA:IV/EOLC for instance allows private communication between friends and you can only hear people through your headset.
I don't need some annoying ****** yelling through my tv.
I know I can mute them but still by the time I do I could be dead.
It would be so much more useful in wanted mode too. When the whole world can't hear your plans and go steal your kill.

That's my 2 cents

id rather mics worked like they did in the beta.able to hear people at ALL times.i frequently play with friends and we all use mics.it's stupid you can only hear people when you're near them.i'm not really going to be near someone unless im after them so they then know i'm after them or they are after me.it's ridiculous

I didn't read anything but the origonal post.
Here is your solution: MUTE THEM!!!!
If you cant figure out who it is, mute them all. It is really not hard.

+1 that, it's the first thing I do when I get in a lobby, just making everyone shut, even if they dont talk http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

What a terrible idea. Trying to discourage teamwork in a multiplayer game which relies on co-ordination? You must be joking right?

Once again, not in the multiplayer team modes. More along the lines of Wanted and Advanced Wanted.
