Absolutely.. in fact if you set the speed of the carrier insanelyfast.. (Say @120..) you can actually take off like a Harrier.. it is kind of cool. I have a mission like that.. I'll send it to you when I get home if you like.

Ha that's kind of funny! Use to do that in Xplane with the wind settings!
Ok but how about online? Haven't seen one yet.

Use a vertical jet. The ring winged thing. German. Funny looking. Do you know the one I mean?

I have a mission (Wish upon a Star) where P-80s take off from a carrier which is traveling at 50, and it's consistently do-able (it might take a couple of practice tries to get it right, but once you figure it out it becomes easy)

Yeah, the Lerche; but it's not a jet. Still, that seems pretty cool. I saw a video on YouTube of someone landing a Lerche on a moving carrier.

ah-ha but all things in IL2 are metric so 50 is and 50 Kph = 32 mph

You can also put several carriers together for online dogfights giving you a long deck. Not realistic but I dont think that is your objective.

The Ar234 can take off so long as it has the rocket assisted take off, I think it can be done from a stationary carrier.

It was one of those two drink minimum lunch time questions.
Just didn't want to do work just dint want to think of working on the new house so just thought I would bring it up since I've never seen it online so thoght I would ask....

rocket assisted take off

Is this functioning in the sim? Never really took notice.

Ok let's be fair here, I stated jets...there are no rockets in jets ok. That being said a comet launching off a flat top would be cool!

Komet take off from carrier is not too difficult; while landing is a divine gift. You find tips in the last post of this thread:

I believe that ALL of the flyables are possible to land AND takeoff from a carrier - except for the Mistel - I haven't managed it yet.

Tricycle gear planes are easy as the brakes in this game are FAR FAR too good - and never fade cause they never get hot! (this is opposite to reality as tricycle gear planes [are said] to have a higher landing speed.)

Oddly enough I found the Mig3 to be hard to carrier land.

Yes.. it is a coop. See the above example.. and put a P-80 in it's place. The carrier must be doing @110-130mph...
