Why don't ships sink if I smash my He-111 or my TB-3 or any heavy plane into it's hull?

Maybe with addon and Jap plane release we can get
Kamikaze attack to work, currently it doesn't.

A TB3 is made of wood and a thin skin. Do you
think that this will sink a ship?

Maybe with his bombs on sharp.

okay why don't ships go down when hit by the Pe-8 MOAB mini nuke? You think 10,000 lbs of TNT would at least knock off the bridge!

Actually, of the 40+ ships at Bikini (? I think it was Bikini, I get that and Bimini confused) atoll, only 2 actually sank when the nuke went off during the test. The Navy was a little miffed.

Perhaps you should load up with bombs first, proper Kamikazes usually flew with a bomb load.

What you need to do is set the bomb/torpedo delay to 0.0 and hit them. If the delay is any higher, no damage will occur.

I sunk a battleship yesterday with a well placed 1000 lb bomb, flying a P-40. I didn't manage to pull out of the dive in time and crashed on shore. I looked around and saw the battleship sinking beneath the waves. This was online btw.

This is commonly said, but incorrect.

I've sunk ships with bombs set for a 2 second delay on many occasions, and have posted screenshots and .trk files of it in the past.

why cant you sink a ship with that plane? its simple.....it is because it was not equipped with the browning M-2 .50 cal super assualt machine gun. not until laser weapons are developed will there be a gun with more killing power!

BinaryFlacon, have you changed anything in the game? I've never been able to sink/damage a ship with a bomb unless there was a zero fuse delay. If a delay is set the bombs will of course still explode but they do not seem to do any damage to the vessel. Going to test this in 1.11 now, haven't tried since the patch...

Umm, turn on "Realistic Gunnery" and try it. The bug is still there, any bomb delay will result in no damage to the ship.

I used full realism settings when I tried it. The only exceptions were invulnerability and infinite ammo, since I was running a QMB specfically to practice skip bombing.

It does work. I sank at least 3 ships in that session using nothing but bombs with 2 second delays.

Screenshots can be found here. (http://bellsouthpwp.net/m/i/mirackyd/Images/P47skip/)

Note the time index in the corner, the skipping bombs and the explosion when they detonate (after skipping once, hitting the ship, disappearing inside and then exploding 2 seconds later).

EDIT:

Just tried again in the P40, and it worked on all of the ships.

Hmm, try it without infinite ammo. I did manage to sink one with delay but "realistic gunnery" and "infinte ammo" were both off. Just for this purpose I went into QMB, set up the Crimea map and attacked one of the small ships by skip bombing them with the P-47 armed with (1) 1000lb and (2) 500lb bombs dropping them at the same time. With no delay set I can sink any of the ships in one pass. However with any sort of delay built in the ships will not be sunk in this fashion. Try it with limited ammo and see, maybe you or I have a "monday version" of IL2FB. I'm going to try it with unlim ammo on, wouldn't it be interesting if by dropping more bombs than you can carry (unlim) that you were able to destroy a ship. That would mean that the damage is there but its no where near what it should be. Testing.....

OK here it is

Bombs needed to destroy small ship in Crimea CMB with ZERO DELAY: (1) 1000lb

Bombs needed to destroy small ship in Crimea CMB with .2sec DELAY: (3) 1000lb

So yes, the bombs still do damage with a delay but it is significantly less, roughly 1/3rd the damage. Now I didn't play around with the delay's to see if more delay did less and less damage but its getting late.

Tests were used on the Crimea map in CMB with the P-47 D22 using single 1000lb bombs. Ships were attacked using the skip bomb meathod.
