Wow, looks gorgeous, and a cool idea for a campaign.

Oh, and is there any historical background to this, or is it a speculative history kinda thing? What background of events do you have going on?

It is speculative/alternate history with regard to Slovakia itself.

But "the Terror" was very real during Russia's Five Year Plan of industrialization. It rivaled the Holocaust in Germany.

The campaign is loosely based on the historic course of events for this time period.

Looks great, but I would think that the AI I-153 is relatively unbeatable with those poor J8As.

The AI does not effectively exploit it's speed advantage in the 153 or it probably would be. The J8 I've found to be incredibly maneuverable and more than a match for the 153 in a close in dogfight.

The real problem for the J8s and Gladiators is their armament against Russian aircraft is just pitiful. You can't waist any shots at all and you really have to think about aiming only for the pilot or engines to get a kill.

It is a real triumph in this campaign to take down a Russian heavy bomber.

Good question. It's 1937 and Germany is not far away preparing for the occupation of the Sudetenland with it's large German population, as well as the annexing of Austria.

Our campaign will be somewhat of a "proxy" war - and a direct conflict between Germany and USSR will remain in the future...however there may be some indirect involvement here, that remains to be seen.

And don't worry - there will be plenty of screenshots here. Feedback always appreciated.

If that's what you like, this will be a dream come true for you. You will literally fly between buildings and through smokestacks on some of the missions.

There will also be several low level one-on-one duels with a few Russian pilots who think they are in Slovakia simply for sport.

There will be an element of this, but on a smaller scale. There will be a handful of foreign aircraft purchased by the Slovakian government, a couple stolen from Russia, as well as 2-3 that are "leased" from a nearby sympathetic government. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/winky.gif

Not easy if you try to dogfight a J8A with a I153 ... but it's not the right tactic.

It's like if you were trying to dogfight a zero with a Spit. The spits stays superior to the zero like the I153 is superior to the J8A, unless you make the mistake to enter a turnfight ...

Bullet sponge is correct. For an open pit biplane, the sheer volume of .303 it soaks up is...rather interesting.

This is nothing but a fake/alternate history campaign that is really just an excuse to fly biplanes 10 feet off the ground in a video game.

I was also using this map to test out a populated Slovakia map template that could be made available (without a campaign) for those mission builders that would like to download it by itself and use it for their own campaign.

That's all it is folks...it's not a history lesson, and it's not a primer on what truck was parked next to what building on August 3rd 1937 or what exact markings were on any airplane at that time.

That is all.

Bump, this is great stuff!

As others have said, the pre-war Czechoslovakian markings are more correct for the period, but that's not a real issue.

Also if you need specific skins, for a Czech Fiat for example, I'll be more than happy to make them for you. I enjoy coming up with fictional paintschemes.

Nice stuff, any fps problems with the new objects??

No FR loss due to the objects themselves whatsoever. My computer is elderly and I can fly right over places like that with no FR drop at all.

I do have big FR loss over the big cities that I've densely populated.

But - my computer is old...Pentium IV 2.5 gig single core, 2 gig RAM and old Raydeon 9800 Pro. I'm definitely not building this campaign with my current computer in mind http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif And I'm sure the new dual and quad-core hot rods will run this thing just fine. Mine - not so much at times.

The campaign will have many thousands of additional objects above what the stock Slovakia map shipped with.

What an inspirational set of screenshots! I had the same basic idea as you- how to get in some pre-WW II biplane action. I chose Finland v Soviet Union using J8s and such. After seeing what a wonderful job you've done, I'm going to have to go back and modify mine and add some more detail like you have! Good job!

Real life causing some real problems, but I'm still chugging away at it when I can. Some updated screenshots:

The existing Slovakia map will have literally thousands of new additions for immersion. This is a small rail yard featuring the new curved roads mod:

Thanks guys, glad you like the screenshots.

I'm trying to make the environment as realistic as possible, and the ground locations being shown will all play a role somewhat in the campaign. You will be taking off from many improvised landing fields and parking your plane in/takeing off from barns, sheds etc.

Will try to post more details later...

Looks great, I'm eagerly awaiting this.

Having dabbled in the mission builder, I can appreciate how much effort you're putting into this - those strongpoints look fantastic ! Way to go ! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/11.gif

Thanks guys...and yes it is taking an absurd amount of work/time to do this because I'm basically populating most of the already excellent Slovakia map http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-surprised.gif

In fact, I may make the populated map itself available as a seperate download from the campaign to those who may like to use it for their own campaigns, etc.

Good to see those Czech and wartime Slovak skins I knocked together last year get some use http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I have had a 6 month break from skinning but intend to get back into it shortly (only skins in the last 6 months were Czech markings on Fiats someone wanted) however I am currently finishing off a prewar squadron of nine 73 Sqn RAF gladiators (the scheme in the image below) but will then be looking for new schemes preferably for the J8a or U2.

Currently the only requests I have are for a couple of Slovak Rebellion Avia's and Letov's so let me know if there is anything specific you are looking for ...

Thank you! Yes those skins are great...I will definitely be talking to you in the future http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Right now I've got serious vid card problems, and I can hardly support the detail in this campaign. It will have to be put on hold until I can upgrade http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/sadeyes.gif...
