My computer is getting a wee bit old so looking for info on which features to adjust to keep a reasonable frame rate.
For ex is reducing the # of aircraft in missions the best way to speed things up ?
reduceing ground targets? etc.
Anything make a surprising difference to frame rates?
Any campaigns/maps that are better for me to play on? Any tips and ideas appreciated!!
Thanks,

i have a simliar old machine (p4 1,7 512mb ti4200)

these are my dgen settings in conf.ini (works like a charme except on maps like the big leningrad map)

[DGen]
MissionDistance=20
SlowFire=80.0
GroundIntensity=Low
MaxFLAK=3
CampaignLength=Medium
MaxBomberSkill=0
NoBadWeather=1

you can alter these settings easy with IL2 Stab
get the latest version here:

Finland (Gulf Of Finland) and Berlin map are fps killers. A lot of objects that drain fps.
Also some(?) [DGen] lines will work only if you set them up in conf.ini and *then* start your career.

It would be best if you set your desired parameters in dgen section and then start your new career.

Heh, Id gladly swap my 256 meg AMD900 and Geforce 3 for your "Old" P4 1.7 any day http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

I find that from the "Video Options" menu under "Hardware setup" if I set the following:

Visibility Distance
Object Lighting
Landscape Detail
Landscape Lighting

All to "Medium" that I can get away with quite a lot. Depending on the amount of content in each mission of course. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Lo,

Download hand crafted campaigns! MUCH easier on the framerate (believe me, I have an even OLDER machine!), and better constructed anyway.
Go to airwarfare.com and check the campaigns section.

1.3 GHz AMD Athlon / 512 MB of RAM / NVidia GeForce FX 5200 here. Most campaigns playable, with some intermittent stuttering thrown in for free http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Check this:

I am surprised often when I talk to someone flying this sim that has never checked the AGP aperature in the motherboard bios settings. In your case I would set it at 256mb if I could, usually it is set to a default of 32 or 64mb.

Opening the agp aperature to a third or half the amount of installed ram will often double framerates for this sim. Also if you can pick up another stick of ram for cheap and increase yours to 1 gig it would help. Do a search for a small program called "startup cpl", this will kill unecessary programs from starting up and running and using up ram and it will act then as if you have more.
