Oleg, I've been flying Forgotten Battles for a few months on and offline now and there are two things I haven't seen that would be of great help for takeoffs and landings in FB.

First is a windsock somewhere on the field. It's the only thing missing so you know which way the winds are if weather conditions are changed in-game. At least you'd know if there is a crosswind.

Also numbers for the airbases with concrete runways would be a great help. Nothing worse than landing and have the AI land in the opposite direction you're coming in from. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

There's also that compass thingy, you know... in some aircraft, you can even see it! /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Just bumping this to keep the Windsock idea alive..... and yes the Dynamic Weather would be great too.

As for numbers on the end of the runways I have been told that this wasn't done during the war for obvious reasons.

But in requesting landing in FB by Ground Control you are not told which compass direction you should take for your landing, only that you do have permission or to Go Around. I have found it a bit hairy when landing to find that you are coming in in the wrong direction and suddenly find yourself headon with another a/c. Of course this happens when you don't contact Ground Control, but in times of emergency, you might not have the chance especially if your radio has been knocked out.

Proposed the windsock idea a while back, some people seemed to think it would require a supercomputer to allow for windspeed. This obligatory piece of airfield furniture always seemed a glaring omission from the 300 ground objects.

Agreed. Been muttering about the lack of windsocks for a while now. The lack of wind is even more disturbing. IRL planes need to take off into a headwind. In IL-2/FB any direction is good. Online this leads to the undisciplined farce of cross runway takeoffs etc. Boo hiss.
Cheers!

Ladies & gentlemen, this is the captain speaking. Thankyou for choosing to fly Mandarin Airlines. Those passengers sitting on the left-hand side of the aeroplane please make yourselves comfortable. Those sitting on the right... please look to your left!

Agreed on all previous, and if possible have the controller tell you which runway that is in use.. Or at least which one the AI intends to use..

Here here, for the windsock. "Hail to the windsock, mighty mighty windsock, it don't blow, we don't go, hail to the windsock..."

Yes indeed by golly, that is definately a good idea.
