well, they have released only pictures of those three, that have released that press info only introducing three new characters. they make it seem as if there are only three. thats just me, though.

Maybe not. Now that I think about it, I think that there will be more than 3 characters. I remember reading somewhere that co-op will support 4 players or something like that.

Based on the press releases and info given out thus far, it seems fairly certain there will be just the three operators:

- Logan Keller (USA) €" Team leader and recon expert.
- Michael Walter (UK) €" Heavy weapons and demolition expert.
- Jung Park (South Korea) €" Long range and electronics specialist.

I also read there will be four-player co-op, but perhaps you would be using your own created character for that.

If there will be a four-player co-op, then why should single player only have three people?

In GRAW you have a four-man team in single-player and up to 16 for co-op.

Hopefully the game makes it obvious that your three-man team is just a small (but vital) part of a larger CT operation taking place in Vegas.

You made your point, but in GRAW, you have more than 3 measly characters. And plus, you have 1 more squadmate tailing your back.

Ubisoft isn't stupid enough to include ONLY 3 squadmates........... Right?

Theyve proven beyond any shadow of a doubt Ubis gonna do what Ubi wants. If they want only 3 ops thats what they will give you. They just havent brought it up yet.

If co-op has 4 players, then single player is bound to having 4 squadmates. Just a thought.

Technically they didn't state that, but I would also be completely shocked if the game had more than three characters (that the players could command).

As it's been stated by our Lead Designer Maxime Beland, we have 2 squadmates and on the support side we have 2 characters and a few surprises.

But yes you are correct when assuming that the squad is a 3 man team.

Why 3? The other rainbow six games always had at least 4 (12 for PC)! After all, it's team Rainbow we're talking about!

Can we at least expect more than 3 measly squadmates in general?

Nomad_381

Why does it matter? Neither 4 nor 3 is the correct amount of team members as indicated by the book which has at least 6 and as many as 12, which would be alright in a total sim style game but obviously Rainbow has never on console been a total sim, if ever. Who would want to deal with orchestrating 6-12 men on an operation? It would lend itself more to a pure strategy game.

If you ask me 3 team members is fine as long as its implemented and done well. 2 team members would be fine. 1 team member would be fine by me if the story was made right (on insertion the rest die and now the lone op has to fight his way out because the area has gotten too hot for extraction etc.)

three teammates are fine as long as you can switch between them and have multiple teams.

Just get the multiplayer right on xbox live! Don't screw with greatness, get back to the BA-Orig R63 feel on the xbox in regards to GAMEPLAY!

On ravenshield for the pc we were told that you play as Ding Chavez but you could be any of a number of characters.

A six man team as you say is stated by the book seems rather a random number as in the SAS they are in groups of 8 split into 2 teams of 4 perhaps 3 is half a six man team...

Exactly. If a mission calls for one team, a small team, then make it the option, like in the PC games. I got to chose who was on what team, how many were on that team, and where they could go. I liked having that decision. I liked having to think past the shooting portion of the game. I had to think about how many people were ideal for that situation. Sometimes i would use all 12 charachters. other times a smaller team would be ideal. That is what Rainbow six was about. Thinking. Planning. I used to have control of my entire team, the entire map, who my team shoots, when my team shoots, where my team is supposed to be. Now they just plop you on a map and say, shoot the bad guys. It's sad to look at all the games in the series and to study the core gameplay, and how much it has changed.

I heard you can play the single player missions coop on live too, so if you want a team of 4, then you can play with 3 friends.. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

CrazySUND0G

Yes, coop is a good sign. Sounds like this game is going to have everything I want, besides waypoint planning that is.

If I lived in a perfect world, Ubi would implement an option the player could toggle so that you could choose up to 8 teammates, or just 3 and a predetermined plan.

Instead they have decided to again have prescripted in-game sequences and label these as "immersive". (IMO, the second time I see a prescripted event, it has the added side effect of sterylizing any "immersiveness")

Oh well, its been about the multiplayer since Rainbow Six 3 anyway. The only Ubi/Clancy story thats any good is Splinter Cell.

why rainbow sent 3 men to vegas.

1) the rest of the rainbow team had left due to old age, or are working in the admin.

2) delta force was accidentally dispatched to disneyland instead.

3) seal team 6 had to repair their inflatable crafts.

4) the HRT was not informed at all.

I keep hearing how the 360 cannot handle more team members. About 12 years ago I bought a 486DX pc for $990 (not counting the external CD drive; a modem; and a graphics card). That old thing eventually ran Rainbow Six, where you could command 4 teams of 3 (12 people total). Now fast forward to today, they say the 360 (with 3 CPUs) cannot handle the programming. With that logic, we will all need to run Commodore 64s on our high speed 1200 baud rate dial up modems before we can get more than a 3 man team to take back Vegas.

Give me a break.

Well in todays standard the requierment for the hardware is much more demanding today.

On N64 it looked rather boxed up, but it worked.
Not to talk about graphics wise the 'new & advanced' A.I take a lot of recources.

CrazySUND0G

IMO, its the scripted events in the game that take all the CPU. Sure the graphics are better than any FPS I've seen so far, but IMO the AI in video games is getting smarter in Small, Incremental steps, while the graphics leap and bound.

It all boils down to $$$. Do you make a game with highly intelligent AI, that requires multiple teams, hours of planning, and the patience of a Tibetan monk for the 10-20% of the demographic?
