http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif LOL,
The way the bloke walks off afterwards as if it is a totally normal way to do things cracked me up.

Is he just doing his job when he's looking around at first??

Actually, I bet he is checking for traffic that might conflict with the plane he is directing onto the taxiway.

I spent a few years on the pad at Nellis AFB in Las Vegas, Nevada and I can easily say that's pretty normal for a flight line troop (you don't have to be crazy to work here... but it helps!). By the way, He's looking for traffic. Officer or NCO be d*****, we let our work speak for itself!

I take it the USAF is adopting the Navy's DAR (Dance Aptitude Requirement) for ground/deck personnel.

That was pretty damn funny. We used to have a guy in my squadron who would do a plane captain dance. It was a combination of all of their various signals. Good stuff. I should have filmed it...

My question is 'who filmed it?'
Shouldn't he have been watching where he was going?

I'll bet that's the back seater taking that vid while the pilot went about his business. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Absolutley not. His job is to follow the directions of the marshaller. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif And I think Jadehawk is right, probably the backseater.

Ah the ballast come porter type person.....

The Royal Air Force in the VC 10 has similar, they carry a Navigator that in the modern world is simply there to balance out the weight of the Air Loadmaster situated at the aft end of the cabin...............

Yeah, that was the GIB taping. Once the radar BIT is running, he's probably got a few minutes on his hands, and it's not like he's going to be the one taxiing a Mud Hen out (no viz straight ahead from the pit.) The chief is checking for vehicles and FOD (especially the two legged variety in a flight suit walking to his jet on a noisy flight line) like he's supposed to.

I've seen my share of marshalling techniques, and that probably isn't the oddest (though it's up there in the top five.) But I'd say that that particular chief has been in the sandtrap for a little too long, and needs to go back to the land of the big BX for a date.

From Dos Gringos' "I'm a Pilot":

"...You can do a dance, pull down your pants
I don't care, I'm not even lookin' at you!"

(note: sung in jest. Most pilots actually appreciate the work the chiefs do...though I don't think I'd mention this particular effort on his EPR.)
