Hello Everybody,

My name is Donald with NaturalPoint Support and I would like to clarify the following post. My answers are all in upper case to make sure there are no misunderstandings.

Thank you for your time and I hope to see you all on the NaturalPoint forums.
================================================== ========

- >I presume the new software will support the old
- TrackIR unit?

YES - EVERYONE WILL BENEFIT FROM THE NEW SOFTWARE, OLD AND NEW USERS ALIKE.

- I bought a TrackIR in the past 3 weeks. When I found
- out about v. 2 I called the company and was told
- that:
-
- 1) New software will be compatible with previous
- hardware version

YES, SEE PREVIOUS QUESTION.

- 2) The company will replace - FREE OF CHARGE -
- recently purchased version 1 units for those people
- who'd rather have the newer model. The only cost
- will be shipping charge both ways. Which
- incidentally is equivalent to returning the version
- 1 unit under the 30-day money back policy and buying
- version 2 instead.

NATURALPOINT'S EXCHANGE POLICY IS THAT WE DO NOT OFFER EXCHANGES, HOWEVER WE WILL ALWAYS HONOR OUR 30 DAY MONEY BACK GUARANTEE. IF YOU HAVE AN OLDER UNIT, THIS IS A GREAT TIME TO GIFT YOUR OLD TRACKIR TO YOUR BROTHER, CHILDREN OR FRIENDS. :-)

- 3) Support guy claims in game 60 vs. 100 refreshes
- per second is not noticeable.

MY MISTAKE - WAS TRYING TO DOWNPLAY THIS BECAUSE WE HAD NOT MADE AN OFFICAL RELEASE STATEMENT.

- But in case you don't want to take their word for it
- you can get your recently purchased unit replaced for
- free.

AGAIN: IF YOU HAVE AN OLDER UNIT, THIS IS A GREAT TIME TO GIFT YOUR OLD TRACKIR TO YOUR BROTHER, CHILDREN OR FRIENDS. :-)

Only thing I've heared for sure is its refresh rate will be 100mhz instead of 60 mhz. And a new look to it, styling but not sure how much different it will actually be.

OK, so I want to buy one now. When will they be available? I have been stashing money from my wife, and have enough saved up for it, but I am afraid of every minute that goes by because she will eventually find my stash! (She can smell money, I swear) So when can this thing be ordered?

You can order it now if you like. All orders for TIR placed now will automatically be receiving a TIR2 when they arrive on a first-come-first-served basis. The cost will be the same as TIR1 was. Plus I'm pretty sure you get a bonus TrackHAT with built in reflector but I'm not 100% on that (only 90% sure /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif ).

I can say there is a cool "visual" indicator addition to the TIR2. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

What he said... /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-indifferent.gif

I've just gotten my TrackIR v1 working the way I like...so don't tell me the v2 is "all that". I can't afford it right now. Higher refresh rate and a new "look" aren't enough for me thanks.

Hey, I'm not trying to sell you anything so if you're happy then why would you need anything else? They've simply added more value to an already excellent technology.

and another thing from natural point Hello:

A little clarification;

We will be releasing a new version of TrackIR software, v3.0 when the new unit ships next week. Everyone will be able to take advantage of the updated features in this software; we are supporting the original TrackIR! Obviously, the TrackIR2 has new features not found in the TrackIR that v3.0 software will take advantage of, but no one is being left behind.

TrackIR2 is a major upgrade, but that doesn't mean that the TrackIR doesn't work anymore! We would love you all to upgrade, but we love all TrackIR users the same!

- The TrackIR2 is faster, 66% higher refresh rate, lower latency and 4X the data throughput. This is a whole new hardware design.
- The case and stand have been upgraded and look much more polished, literally.
- There are cool new status LEDs for TrackIR2, a blue case LED for TrackIR Enhanced mode and a 3 color LED for unit status
- The software is highly refined, full USB hotplug capability, with sleep mode, new tracking routines, and other goodies.

I would like to clarify the following post (yeah me too/i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif )
refresh rate will be 100mhz instead of 60 mhz
100 frames per second, over 60% faster than the original trackIR.
The TrackIR2 is faster, 66% higher refresh rate

New Product is all very exciting but the claims seem to be growing like a fish caught last year! LOL
I cut and pasted from three postings from Natural point

Maybe if I wait two weeks it will be 75% faster/i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Dude, there's three generations of trackIR's, the black ones run at 40mhz, the blue second build run at 60mhz, and the latest TIR-2 runs at 100. Want to read it now in light of what you didn't bother to learn. The statement is pretty accurate, 60% over the first................

XyZspineZyX
10-31-2003, 04:39 AM
from sim hq..............Hello again. Jim finally gave us the go ahead to give more information since they already let the cat out of the bag!

To answer the last question posted, no, the TrackIR1 will only scan at 60 fps and only the TrackIR2 will scan at 100 fps. This is a hardware issue. If you want the 100 fps, you will have to buy the TIR2. It makes a HUGE difference from though.

To a few points made before...

The TrackIR2 is slightly larger, but not by much. The LED is now green and yellow to indicate whether TrackIR is paused or unpaused. There is also a very cool feature where the case glows blue when you are in TrackIR Enhanced mode. It makes for a very neat looking peice of gear! It also has a much longer USB cord so you will not need a USB extension cable anymore.

The new software version will work on both the TrackIR 1 and 2. The code is completely re-written, so you will notice a great deal of improvements. As Jim noted, the smoothing is completely different and both the 1 & 2 run awesome on 3.00.

A personal note: An upgrade to TrackIR2 is worth it. Give your TrackIR1 to a friend or sell it online quick before everyone elses goes on Ebay. You will see a major difference. And no, I do not work for UBI or receive any $ from them.
