Hello everyone. I play shadowbane which is another UBI game and noticed this game on the list and wanted to check it out. I am 23 now and when i was 13-19+ cant really remember i played a game called airwarrior by kesmai. Im just curious if this game resembles it at all as that was my all time favorite game. Thanks a lot for opinions!

I've had Air Warrior III off-line for approximately a decade, and moved up to this IL2/FB/PF series just this fall.
BSS is right, the graphics are much better:

The Flight Model (FM) is approximately the same: bf109s climb well, FW's roll fast, P-51s suck in a turn, et cetera.
The plane set is somewhat different depending on which version you buy. Are you looking for a specific plane or theatre?
AI is vastly improved, all though the IL2 series only sets Rookie/Average/Veteran/Ace, whereas AW3 allows individual tailoring of awareness, skill, and morale. For instance, you can't select an Ace opponent with low morale and poor SA. Further, AW3 had a terrific random feature so an AI opponent had to be approached with caution; in IL2, you pretty much know from the outset what you're up against.
There's no comparing the ground interaction of IL2 with AW3. AW3 ground vehicles were an afterthought. The IL2 series has an extensive ground vehicle and object database, and it's growing with every patch.

A joystick is mandatory; there is no option for fly-by-mouse as found in AW3. Also, confirm minimum system requirements, the IL2 series demands more of everything esp. memory and vid card.

Like AW3, IL2 has a mission builder. Unlike AW3, IL2 has a dynamic campaign generator. Both have a limited quantity of pre-built missions. IL2 adds the Quick Mission Builder for setting up small-group "dogfights" (1v1 up to 16v16).

Try it, you'll like it. I daresay it's the best combat flight sim currently available. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

Two more things to add upon further thought: Weather (conditions) and damage modelling.
In AW3, it's always high noon, clear skies, and pooltop terrain. In IL2 you can vary the time:

Terrain is now much more realistic, and weather can be varied:

Regarding damage modelling, AW3 uses a "hit bubble". A hit anywhere in the bubble causes an instant fireball. IL2 has a much more realistic DM that allows partial damage:

Its completely worth it if you're at all into the subject. Give yourself some time to get accustomed to it once you do have it...there is a learning curve but I'm sure if you were into Airwarrior I'm sure you can adapt to this one.

darkbaron: This summer i walked into a store and bought this thing on a total whim...i'd never played a flight sim before....within 2-3 weeks every other game i owned was collecting dust. Within the month every game besides PF was off my hard-drive. It's that good!

Treat yourself! Easily the best 20$ i've ever spent. If you can find Forgotten Battles and Ace Expansion Pack you can merge all three games into the mother of all flight simulator.
