View Full Version : A "goodbye" from me.

It's finally time for me to admit to myself that I won't be flying FB any more and to say "goodbye" to you guys, who've been so welcoming over the last couple of years.

I have flown less and less over that last few months and have started to find other games far more appealing. (BF2 anyone?)

I tried to fly again the other day but the new 4.01 FM and my old joystick are pretty-much incompatible.
TBH I can't justify shelling out on any new hardware for a game I've gotten tired of.

I'm not complaining about the new FM - it's revolutionary IMO (good job 1C Maddox! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/11.gif ) - but I personally need better peripherals to get any good at using it.

My twisty-rudder and TrackIR1 just aren't cutting it.

Anyway, I thought it would be rude to simply disappear without a trace so that's the reason for the post.

Perhaps I'll see some of you on another battleground some day...

Hello BattleField2!! I'd played BF1942 for three years before it got old. I won't miss PF all that much. I'll still play from time to time. I won't express why I won't miss PF, it'll only lead to flames which is one of the reasons I won't miss it all that much. See you on the BattleField ExtremeOne. Semper Fi MudMarine

Actually change is good. I do not exclusively fly IL2, I also play RTW and sometimes Morrowind. It seems to me wise to have 2-3 games and not all the same type. Have something different if you`re main game is quite intensive. So if you`ve got IL2 go for something light like UT2004 (whatever). This way you don`t burnout because of overdosing on just one game.

As for flying 4.01, I find twist stick easily ok for flying and the only reason I want rudders is because I`ve wanted it for a long while. I`m still using TIR1 and I`m having no problems, I see no reason to spend on TIR3.

The only other expense I`m about to fork out on is a good graphics card which will benefit everything, not just IL2.

See, it`s not so bad. Anyway, enjoy yourself, Extreme_One , whatever you do, but I have a feeling we`ll meet again. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

But don't forget that self-imposed exile doesn't mean that Ubi cancels your account here. You can stop by any time, and I daresay that you'll get bit by the bug again.

Aaaaaaah, that's too bad Extreme one. You will be missed, but I can understand. As expressed above I find your work very well done to the 'EXTREME' http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif. Heck it's not easy to create such detailed missions, plus online fighting. You put a LOT of time into IL2/PF. More than the average bear, I'm sure. So I can understand the burn out.

I hope it turns out to be just a hiatis, and you find yourself back soon.

Good luck and thanks for popping in to say goodbye.

It would be wierd to one day have a post:

"Does anyone remember Extreme One?" (kinda like the RBJ posts you see once in a while. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif)

I'm curious tho......... I've got TRack IR 1 and it works. Is yours broken? I've been having tracking problems to the right for a little while and it seems to be getting worse. (or at least more aggrivating)

Best o luck Extreme One.

See ye when BoB comes around!!

I am in a similar position in regards to hardware, and the fact it is rapidly becoming more difficult to keep up. I have a 14.99 stick with 4 buttons and a slider, and I hse the keypad to view (and virtually every key on my keyboard has some kind of function!)

I can justify shelling out for a new stick at some point in the next couple of months, but other than that, I'm waiting for BoB til I do a serious upgrade.

Anyway, I know you'll jump into that Spit Mk.I in BoB, so I'll see ye in the skies!

Low_Flyer_MkII - Glad you're enjoying "DUCs" - I'm really proud of that one http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

SeaFireLIV - You could be right about overdosing on one game - I feel that's what happened to me. Lets' hope we do "meet again" http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

EURO_Snoopy - You might be right about me coming back in future - I'd like to keep in touch http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Chuck_Older - I'm sure I'll at least lurk from time to time to see what you oddballs are up to. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

knightflyte - "Does anyone remember Extreme_who?" http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif Actually I think I've just fixed my TrackIR problem - the reflective tape was old and grubby.

Tooz_69GIAP - Abso-bloody-lutely can't wait to fly a Spit MkI in BoB - I just hope it comes out at around the time I can upgrade my rig adequetly http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Thanks for all the kind words guys.

Oh well - I think I'm off for one last attempt and taking off from the Illustrious in my Seafire.

Your work will be missed. I have gone months without playing this sim. Sometimes for work reasons, sometimes just out of lack of interest. But after 4 years it is the only game to which I still consistently return. You will see something about WW2 that will spark your interest on TV or in a book and you will get an itch to play again.

I guess i'm in the same boat Simon. Ok, I don't post here often, but I have (in the past) played IL2 as my 'main game' off and online, but things just change over time. I also used to play Americas Army, and IL2 and AA have the same problem these days for me - that is - updates are one thing, but I personally beleive that too many changes/enhancements (for good AND bad)/Addons, Patch fixes/fixes to fix patch fixes....the whole shaboodle gets TOTALLY out of hand and all you're left with is the 'whiners'...."whens the next **** patch out - this ones ****"

Just another case of flight sim burnout... it happens to alot of people.. over the past 12+ years of simming I too have taken a break from it all on severl occations.. IL2-PF is amazing in that it has held my att this long.. Just take a few months off.. After playing that ghay BF2 stuff you will be burned out on it within two months and need a Il2-PF fix! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Extreme One,

Please don't leave before telling me how to get your 'Battle Over Britain' chatter-pack uninstalled! It's played every time I've flown for the last...2 years? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif

No wonder I'm going crazy. Nice job though!

I must wonder if all the work you did on the campaigns took its toll.

After spending long hours putting together my FMB tutorials, I started to feel that Sturmi was an unpaid job, I got burnt out with it and didn't fly for six months (first time back today!). Well, it was that plus getting my butt reamed a bijillion times online.

During the last six months I got back into (computer) board wargames (Korsun Pocket) and even tried a few FPS demos. I'm currently having a bit of fun with Americas Army. A complete change of pace.

We all know that you'll be back, refreshed , for BoB.

See you then and thanks for your help with FMB probs.

I've been away and over at the SHII forums for a bit. SHIII is a welcome change but FB is still the mainstay. As I posted over at SimHQ - Like so many others here I have enjoyed playing your campaigns. Few in any group contribute to the extent you have, and for that the IL-2 community is very thankful for all your hard work.

I too have taken breaks in the past. I have never played a game for so long as IL-2, and patches/addon are a much welcomed sight indeed.

So many other great games to enjoy. Variety is the spice of life! Enjoy your leave, and I suspect your love for WW2 aviation will have you back with us sooner than you realize now. If not, hopefully with a better rig/setup we'll see you when BOB is released.

I have TrackIR1 and a twisty stick (Saitek Cyborg Evo) and I do just fine. I can see being a little frustrated with the game as I am constantly in that I am always getting shot down and haven't scored an honest kill in a month or so. However, I don't believe your hardware should be any limit unless it's processor or graphics card related.

I feel the sameway about the games performance on mid end machines. The major loss of fps is a huge hit even all tweaked with 3.04 clouds etc.

I don't really agree on the new fms and think the game has taken a major step backwards in that department. The game seems exactly like il2 sturmovik with the super trim. And bat turning super non e bleeding ac like the 109 and dora highspeeds now which bleed e like the 3.04 spitfire but all allied ac are stalling 350km/h.

The only thing i like in this new patch are the new ai which seem like human players and make for difficult fighting, even tho they crash from light hits time to time but thier manuevers are great and they are not glitching around like they use to. Its also a huge challenge to fight 16 ai aces now as before it was not.

4.01 fms and damage models are more off then ever same with stall speeds, climb, dive, energy retention, weapons effectiveness, roll, rudder use, rudder stability, overheat timings, compressibility, accelaration so many depts.

I plan on buying BF2 as well june 22, I find the game alot of fun. After all this game is just a first person shooter as well with small square maps also.

I mean fms in this game change so drastically patch to patch with no readme that says whats been changed or with no data charts and proof of thier decisions to change things except the majority of whines. I actually liked the early betas much more I find 4.01 even easier then 3.04 and other patchs becuase of the supertrim.

Bf2 will get boring much quicker then this game after you get to know all the 8 maps, Also bf2 will not support user addons anymore the one thing that made bf1942 stay alive. And EA with cheating is horrable and use of pb which cheats come out the day pb is updated to pass it. Even look at the bf2 demo and all the cheats out for it already.

I hope you dont leave and stick around for future patchs. You at least need to stay till some of the other ac get here ju88 cw21b tempest do335 italians more japanese flyables etc to leave the game for good. Maybe when you get bored of bf2 the next patch will get here.

I hope you stick around and make fantatsic free missions as well still in the future. So no goodbyes and stick around and play both games.

M8 I loved your campaigns and we have even talked fishin in the past..

I, like everyone else here, has had burnout with this sim at some time or other,,,,,,

What is so amazing about this sim is I keep coming back, never done that before, ever.

What re-kindled it for me was finally venturing online, totally new expereince, and great meeting up with new m8's

Tacticals has already done it above but I would like to say it again, thx from all the m8's in the Fighting Irish who have loved your campaigns.

The very best of for all your future endevours and,,,,,,,, hope to see you back soon http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Simon, I would be happy to donate a new rig to your cause if I thought it would keep you around, but I know how it is if you loose interest in something like this. Most people don't know how much determination it takes to complete even one campaign, much less all the work you have contributed to make this game better for all of us!

I got your package last night http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/10.gif and I will see what I can do. I didn't understand what you meant until I saw this thread, but now I get it. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

Do me a favor and send UbiRazz an e-mail before you drop off the face of the earth (or at least the Ubi Forums for now) because I have not been able to check the submissions account for over a month & he has not answered his PMs. I don't know what I will do about that without you around, but I am sure it will get worked out.

Thanks for all your help and if you still want to work on Malta some day, I will probably be here.

Extreme_One, I'm late to the thread, as I don't visit here daily now. My best to you in your future interests!

I am also in a similar position. I have not really played IL2/FB anymore since PF was released. I didn't buy that addon, so my future with the game was over right about there. Besides my enjoyment of the series had begun to slide abit anyway, though I didn't seem to want to realize it at first. It has been enjoyable, I played for several years, and the nice guys here are just as good as the game, if not better.

Still I will not say goodbye, as I do hope I will return with BoB someday. Today I'm still into flight sims, I mostly enjoy IFR stuff in MSFS, paying more for addon planes and gauges than I paid for the sim itself. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif But I really do enjoy it, and thats what counts. I mix in some UT2004 to keep gaming filled with variety, maybe some AoE3 in the future too.

Plus I really enjoyed my work at the il2skins website when it was up, and really hope I can return to that one day soon.

See you in the future! S!

SO lets get this straight his found another game he likes so he€s gonna play it for a while? . He hasn€t got terminal cancer or anything? Jeez people get a grip your acting like he€s dying or something. This forum is a mouse click away and oh boy it€ll take a really super human effort to join an online game when he feels like it? €¦NOT!

EDIT: Respect is earned, you have two weeks to find some.

Wellcome back anytime and until then, thank you for everything. You were always ready to help anybody and thereby you were amongst those, who have made this forum what it really is!

I´m sure you´ll be back when the time is ready for the BATTLE OF BRITAIN. As far as I understood you are a brit and men like you just can´t sit there and do nothing when the very sky of London is covered by Heinkels, Junkers Ju 88:s and the beloved "One-O-Nines". When that day is at hand, I`ll be there (in my "One-O-Nine") and many of us would be disappointed, if you would not!

So, see you more or less soon!

Sorry to hear EO. I hope you get tired of whatever you decide to play fairly quickly. I had a feeling the new FM would cause some m8's to throw in the towel because their rigs aren't up to snuff, and the fact they have already spent a fortune to play it up til now. I hope you make a return soon.

****, another good member of the community is leaving. Up goes the proportion of whiners on this forum...

I tend to play one game exclusively for - yes - two weeks, then get burned out and do something different. I haven't played a lot of Il-2 over the last few months compared to the months before that, I don't know why... But you'll be back soon, I hope.

What's wrong with the TrackIR-1? I am using a 7-way hatswitch (Down-Left is broken) on a CHPro yoke, surely any TrackIR is an improvement? I can't even fire, look around, and operate the throttles at the same time!
