I've recently changed my broadband supplier and although the connection is 2.3Gb, I find that my ping ratings are varying between 63 and about 350. Several times recently I've been unable to connect to online games with the message about 'Time Out'. Does anyone have a solution please?

The first thing I would do is contact your ISP. Not sure if you're using DSL or Cable or what... But as part of your package most of them will guarentee a Ping but if it's swinging like you stated there could be a number of reasons.

Also keep in mind since you changed providers your ping to the servers you usually play will be affected.

You might try this handy little utility called TweakDUN.

From Major Geeks:

TweakDUN promotes faster Internet data transfer rates and faster downloads by eliminating fragmentation of data packets. This easy-to-use award-winning utility changes hidden default settings in Windows 95/98/NT4/2000/XP registry to tweak most Network Adapters, including DUN. Works with ALL language versions of Win95/98/NT4/2000/XP and for AOL too. It includes a hosts file utility, plus MTU search and automatic internet update for registered versions. Version 3.0 now features a built in bandwidth monitoring utility, TweakMeter.

Since installing it, I rarely get ping spikes http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Thanks for your contributions. My server says that I should be able to play with these pings but I have been unable to connect - just get 'connection failed...time out'. I've gone back to 'system restore' and attempted to reintall 'play online' but now get message 'GS4 no valid string table found' - does this make any sense to anyone?!!
