I just installed new TrackIR2 but I'd like somebody to give me reasonable settings for XY axis ,speeds etc- right now when I fly it feels as if I'm in a very fast swinging hammock or yo-yo when I barely turn my head..I have speed turned down but this doesn't seem to make much difference - can anyone help with smple clear instructions on how to set this up???

Have you downloaded the latest drivers? I had this problem with tir1 untill I updated the drivers.

The speed is controlled by the curves (A).

In my custom settings here, you can see that it moves faster (moves view faster with same head motion) in the edges, and a big, smooth deadzone in the middle.

To adjust your settings / create a custom curve, you need to set the "Speed" (B) at each "Point" (C).

The little triangle above the "0" on the X-axis shows where I'm currently editing, and you can see the speed is set to zero.
(Perhaps a different screenie would be better...)

Move the Edit Point (C) slider one notch, and you will see two triangles indicating the two points you are editing. (One for each side of center).

There are 5 or 6 "points" to edit along each axis, I prefer to edit X separately from Y, but that's a matter of individual taste.

You said that you felt it moved very fast, so you might want to try setting the speed to zero AT EACH POINT.

Set the speed at each point as you wish, you use Smoothing (D) to control how smooth the curve will be between each point you set the curve in. If smoothing is set to zero, the transition between each point will be very abrupt and jagged.
I don't think smoothing does anything at all if you use a preset curve, although I'm sure there's lot's of people who thought it was much better. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

jamesdietz:
Nice tips from olaleier, that should put you on the right track. BUT don't forget to switch to TrackIR Enhanced (Absuolute) Mode. This will let you center the TrackIR and setup a deadzone in the center. This really helped me.

In Mouse Emulation you get a simulated mouse movement with the "swinging hamock" feeling that you describe. Enhanced Mode lets you set the unit up as you wish. I have a fair dead zone in the center to allow for aiming with a little head shake, then I speed up movement towards the edges so I can swing round the entire way without excessive movement.

And welcome to the wondrous world of TrackIR! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

A nice tip, I think, is to ask some people you know if you can have their map/profiles.

I asked everyone I knew what their experiences with TrackIR was and then I ended up going with the guy's profile who had the least problems.. Now I am rocking and rolling...

My buddy tin just sent me an acive dot for Christmas.. It's good to have good online buddies.. Thanks Tin --> (my wife just told me it came in the mail...)

TrackIR follows it much better than a reflected dot.

A few days later & several different trial & error settings later too-it is fun & I'm slowly getting used to it....Can anyone give me a visual profile of the best setting on the X&Y settings to shoot for? I tried quite a few & I must be just missing the right one - either too slow on the edges , or a too large dead zone in center, or something...wouldn't it be nice if Trackir folks gave a perfect setting for FB?Also I can't seem to get auto center hot button to work on Joystick ( a convenient spot for it,for me)Finally is the ideal solution for the relective dot to make the glasses with a homemade reflective sphere, talked about elsewhere??? Can this be purchased already made, or should I just go out & do it myself- is it worth the trouble...

There is no perfect setting for FB, it's all very individual.

If you find it too slow on the edges and too large a deadzone...then you know where to tweak right? http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

You'll probably need to use an external joystick profiler to get TrackIR functions on the stick, what stick do you have?
