Those are absolutely amazing works of art.
I like the fact that the artist decided to create some pieces depicting axis aircraft too, the ME-109 one is a cracker.
The B-29 one is also one that caught my attention, the "angel of death" falling down to earth on the Fat Man is a stark image.
The A-10 picture is also brilliant, I hope that the artist does more modern aircraft images as well as the WW2 ones.

+1. Instantly followed by the observation that her pectoral development would be considerably insufficient to sustain powered flight, and that furthermore the somewhat "furry" nature of a moth's wing would be utterly inappropriate given the implied design Reynolds number. This was followed about 0.5 seconds later by involuntary mutterings about aspect ratio, spanloading, CoG (relaxed static stability anybody?) and so on.

My gaze then switched to the Spitfire. Very strange; individual exhaust stubs and what looks like a late pattern spinner combined with an "a" wing.

Next came the Ju-88. I'm very unsure about the fire - are we to believe it has sustained a descent at 40º alpha? Since it is clearly done for, why is the Spitfire turning towards it? Surely this can't be a painting of an impending killsteal? If life imitates art, is this painting to blame for the Spitfire's online reputation?

Around 2 seconds into my gaze I concluded that she was quite cute.

Around 5 seconds into my gaze I decided that the artist had not considered the likely effects of airloads upon her strapless costume... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/winky.gif

Then I scrolled down. Where exactly did the AMRAAM come from in that A-10 painting? And what's going on with her face? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif

Definitely not an AMRAAM, that is an AIM-7, clearly missing that A-10, and going on about its way to miss other aircraft.

Viper2005_
06-01-2007, 09:25 AM
There is a lesson in this somewhere about the wisdom of posting late at night/early in the morning. It is of course an AIM-7, though where it has come from and why it hasn't been set off by a proximity fuse remains mysterious to me.

I am not convinced however that the German bomber in the 1st picture is really meant to be an He-111.

Very cool imagery and quite inventive. Art, like music is always open for interpretation by the observer. The differences in personal tastes is what makes this world a fun place. Otherwise, things would get pretty boring here on earth. I followed the linky and made sure to snatch them all for my HDD collection. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/winky.gif

I find them to be quite rich in artistic talent and I love the symbolism aspect, as females have always been associated with warplanes. From nose art, to names of planes, to pilot's referring to their planes as "She" or "Her" or an actual woman's name. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

Technical accuracy does not even enter my mind when looking at those pictures. As that aspect is far beyond "fourthondary" in those works of art, IMO. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

I think that's supposed to be the sharkmouth on the Warthog. The way I see it, all the ladies represent their respective aircraft in the picture. For instance, you have that Samurai-ette(? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/53.gif) alongside the Zero, the sinking gal above the downed P-47 (What that represents is rather obvious), and so on and so forth.

Back to basic aircraft recognition class for you. Although you did get the engine right, that is a F4U, not a P-47. Thar be Booty under that Jolly Roger,...YAR! Or would that be a latent necrophelia? I just grossed myself out.

Divine-Wind

Look at the cockpit. The F4U had a bubble canopy (Generally), not the kind you see in the picture. Plus, the cockpit was much farther back.

Well it is Blue, and I don't see a canopy, but I do see a windscreen, and both Corsairs and Thunderbolts flew with checkerboard cowlings. The telling clues for this puzzle are the Jolly Roger bikini bottoms, re: VF-17 or pirates, leading into "Corsair", also right clicking on the aforementioned image brings up the name "Voctory Gal. Corsair"
(only back at the original site, not here)

Do we really want a victory Gal Thunderbolt? because to me (and I am pretty buzzed right now) The artists thought process could go something like this. "P-47,........heaviest of them all,...drank a lot ,...went down really fast"

That could be bad.

He ought to do Gabreski and his wingman. I'm sure I'm not the only one who'd like to see his take on a great pair of Jugs. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/winky.gif

The reason the plane is blue is because it's underwater. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif If he was trying to do an F4U, he goofed a bit. The Corsair did not have that type of windscreen so far as I know, nor was its cockpit so far forward. (The Corsair's cockpit was behind the wings, while the Thunderjug 'pit was situated over the wings, though more towards the back) The Thunderbolt, on the other hand, was equipped with the windscreen depicted, and though the cockpit wasn't so far up, it was still closer to the front than on the F4U. The fueselage also seems to have the general shape of the Thunderbolt.

Korolov1986

On page 3, he describes how he made the Corsair and shows a better likeness of it in a sketch.

Divine-Wind
06-03-2007, 09:07 PM
Actually... There is no wing. In the sketches and stuff (3rd page, about 2/3's of the way down) you can see that the wing has been ripped off. However, the fueselage and general look is very much similar to the Thunderbolt.
