I know it's not mine, but I want to post it anyway. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_razz.gif My younger brother and i have made fan movies for over a year now, and we've been showing our older brother videos, giving him tips, and asking him to make one for quite some time. Well, he finally made one, and this is the absolute best first fan movie I've ever seen! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Wow. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif That's even better than some of yours. The fast pace works really well, it's not too fast to follow, and the music pwns.

Pretty amazing huh? I'm impressed, that's all I know! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif

It took me forever to get where I'm at and he's already right up there with me. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif

I'm happy though. Now all three of us are into video making. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_razz.gif I'll find a link to my young brother's videos, he's the best of the three of us.

Yeah, it's nice having my brothers around. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif We're all pretty close in age.

My younger bro is going to be 18 later this month, my older bro is going to be 21 early next month, and then I'll be 20 the month after that. lol. Birthdays right back to back! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_razz.gif

We're all still at home with the rents right now, so I'm enjoying it while it last. We're getting older and it shouldn't be long before we start moving out. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/sadeyes.gif

Edit: dj, we use Sony Vegas. Don't get discouraged with WMM though, you can still make some pretty awesome stuff with it! I'll give examples when I finish your review. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_razz.gif

Edit 2: Ok, here's al ink to my younger brother's most recent video. http://g1x.org/gamecaptures-.php?misc=search&subaction=...tart_from=&go=search (http://g1x.org/gamecaptures-.php?misc=search&subaction=showfull&id=1147367058&archive=&cnshow=news&ucat=5&start_from=&go=search)
I couldn't find a stream.

Your older brother has good taste in games. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif It would be cool to have brothers with the same intrest as you. Do you guys ever compete vids?

Melonie
09-15-2006, 08:11 PM
Yes, those were good game choices! The Baten Kaitos brought back good memories of when we all beat that. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif Good times, good times. That game had an excellent story! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

We haven't ever competed with our videos yet, but we might in the near future. There is a competition at GT right now, so I guess if my older brother and I advance enough we will eventually have to face off against each other! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif

That would be fun though. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif I think I could take him though. It'd be a close match, that's for sure!

Well I ran by my buddys studio and picked up Sony Vegas 5, I guess he didnt use it anymore since they have a 6.0 out, anyways this thing is worlds better, I like the interface a lot better, now I just gotta figure out how everything works lol. Oh and Melonie do you have 5.0 or 6? If so do you know what the main difference is?

Melonie
09-16-2006, 02:08 PM
I have 5.0. Haven't used 6, so I'm not 100% sure what all the differences are.

I'm working on a video right now, I could upload a piece of it to show you some of the effects you can do with it. I'll fix it up in just a bit. I haven't even finished your review yet! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif

One word of advice here and now though, videos take time. No doubt about that. If you want to make a good video, prepare to spend about 10 hours minimum. Once you learn more stuff it will take you even longer, but that's ok because the videos will get better lol. The time varies from video to video, but the last one I was working on took about 30 hours to do about 45 seconds (didn't even like it over all, so I scrapped it), and the one I'm working on now looks like it will take longer.

It's worth it though! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif At least I think so. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_razz.gif

Sure id love to see it! This Vegas is def better, I was messing around with some of the effects which are awsome, I did some motion blur wich looked cool. But yea, I see myself spending lots and lots of time on this program. Im a bit of a perfectionist when it comes to these things, which kinda sucks because Ill spend a hour on one little thing if I dont like it lol, well I do that with music anyways. With MM I think the max time I ever spent on making a video was like 2 hours, just because it didnt seem like there where a lot of options except the normal standard stuff. Hope you dont mind though I might have some questions on how to do somethin later on down the road as im a bit of a noob when it comes to this. lol

Well I'm happy to hear you're so enthusiastic about the program! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif I'm sure you will make some really awesome videos in the near future. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif You definitely have a good outlook about it, I was very intimidated when I first started using Vegas. Sounds like you're doing the right thing though, just playing around with the different effects, that's how you'll do your learning, just goofing off really lol.

I'm about to render to little segment of video right now, I'll have it up asap.

Ok, uploaded. It's HORRIBLE quality on youtube though! It looks really clear normal sized though, so try to overlook all of that.

Here's a download link if you want to see it at a better quality:

Melonie, your ISP should be offering you free webspace. The only think you need to do is get an FTP client to use to upload your movies to it. Quality will be much better. Typically the webspace has an addy like <pre class="ip-ubbcode-code-pre">http://bellsouth.net/~melonie/...</pre>. If not sure what to do, check the FAQ for your ISP or even call the Support line to get more information. You usually get 10MB of webspace. If your video is bigger than that, you may have problems and have to use something else, but that is a bridge to cross when needed.

Ok, which fade? I faded a lot lol. The one with Yuna and Tidus at the end?

Ok, here's what I did:

I have about 8 different video tracks, that was I can put some overt he others, etc. I put the picture of Yuna at the bottom and added a gradient map effect to it. Tidus picture is on the video track above that one. I left his video in color, but I made it more transparent. You can change the opacity levels by moving your mouse to the top of the clip, then you click it and drag it down to however see through you want it. After I turned the opacity down I went into the Event pan/crop part of the Yuna clip. All I had to do was make the box bigger, which made the clip smaller, and I changed the size of the clip for different parts of the video in order to make it small, move around a bit, then go back to full screen. You can change when the clip does this where it says, "position" on the event pan/crop window. The effects windows have this as well. They will be marked with little diamond things. It's really hard to explain without showing you, but once you play around with it you will understand.

But anyway, right when Yuna's picture gets to be full sized, I took the gradient off of Yuna's clip and put it on Tidus'. I also added a flash for when it changed. Flashes are really, really easy. All you have to do is click on the automation settings to the left, which is your video track slot, and then you click "Show Automation Controls". After you click that, there will be a little bar thing that says "Fade". Click on the switch, but keep it at "none". You just have to click the switch to get the reddish/pinkish line to show up. Now in order to make a flash all you have to do is double click three sections of the line, which will make three blocks. Keep the two outer blocks where they are, but move the middle one really far up. That's about it for the flash, it's simple. Changing the width of the blocks will chance how the flash looks, how long it last, etc. Just play around with it, it's easy.

Anyway, that's some of the things I did with that clip in particular. I did a lot more, but I would rather find a screen capture program so I could demonstrate how I do this rather than just type it out, some of it is harder to explain because I did these effects manually, rather than drag and drop them on there.

If you have anymore questions let me know and I'll do the best I can to help. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

For those needing an FTP client, here is a free one. SmartFTP (http://www.smartftp.com/) can handle what you want to do and has what looks to be a pretty intuitive GUI.

Ok, yea I saw the opacity thing, I was tryin to figure out how to do it just in one section, cause when I would drag it down it would do the whole video, im sure its something simple though lol, but yea if you want to capture ur screen just hit the print screen button on your keyboard, it should be right next to the F12 key or near it, then g2 MS paint, edit paste, save it as a JPEG or PNG so it compresses the size.

Well I was talking about a video screen capture, not just a picture. I'll try to find something. If not I've been thinking about buying one anyway. I give reviews all the time, might as well. lol.

Well yeah, it will make the whole clip opaque, that's why you have to cut your clips. You want to work with various video tracks as well, that will add a lot. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
