My GF got my present early. A brand new copy of Windows Vista Ultimate. The OS works like a charm so far.

VISTA = 5 pounds of *poop* stuffed into a 3 pound bag.

Well, at least you (your GF) got you the Ultimate edition. The lesser versions don't come with a lot of built in options, and to upgrade later costs more in the long run to add those modules. All in all I think it will be an OK operating system once they get all the compatibility issues worked out. I've been playing around with the business version for a couple of months now and I will say one thing in Vista's favor - thus far it is rock solid. No crashes yet. But I have found that numerous applications won't run on it. Some won't even begin to install. Personally I think this is a ploy on the part of software companies to 'force' their customers to upgrade to newer versions of their programs. We've seen this is other versions of Windows. Backwards compatibility is neither implied nor guaranteed.
Just out of curiosity, are you tired of being asked if you really want to do something you just asked the computer to do? I am. I'm not sure whether to view the new security "features" as friend or foe. It sure does get annoying after a while IMHO. And that shutdown menu is amazing...LOL...switch user, log off, lock, restart, sleep, hibernate, standby, and shutdown. Sometimes too many choices is NOT a good thing. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/compsmash.gif

Well i got my first problem in IL-2 1946. The game wont run very well, i only get 5 fps in directx mode and only 15 in OpenGL mode.

After contacting ati, microsoft, creative, they all gave me the same answer.

Wait until better drivers come along to fix the problem.

So i went back to windows xp professional. I got my fps back the way it was.

Im suprised you didnt read previous posts ot maybe you did and wanted to give vista a go.

I have no plans for vista and by the times its tweaked vienna will be out.

DX10 cards are too big, too expensive , too hot and use too much power for my consideration.

hmmmm - Vista Ultimate version is a hog.

there is a version better suited to gaming but you might have a way of streamlining Ultimate by shutting off some of its 'features' whilst flight simming.

Also - Nvidia is ahead of ATI in the GPU drivers for Vista and 64bit race...AMD didn't buy ATI because they were doing so well, but rather....

Check with ATI frequently and email them your specs when you talk to them about drivers for Vista.

Hmmm... I suggest Nf6 is probably your best move at this point. Bold, but not foolhardy.
