View Full Version : LIST OF THE BUGS

XyZspineZyX

This topic is to simply list the bugs/errors in the game you believe to have found. NOTE: this is listing only. It`s ment to ease Oleg`s work, and also for the community, to see the improvements.

So if you come in, list those you would like to be corrected.

No arguing here, no flaming, you shouldn`t even question wheter the bug the other guy reported here exist/ahistorical or not. This is a collection of opinions.

So Positive comments only.

So far I am concerned with:

-MK 108 damage and accuracy model

-BK3.7 and MK103`s inability to pierce T-34/76 armor where it`s theoretically possible

-fix MG131 aligment on 109s.. they were NOT assymetircal (yes, I know, it`s of tertiary importance)

-Ammunition load for 109F-4, G-2: there should be 200 rounds instead of 150

-Revise climb rates of Bf 109E, Hurricane (too high)

-Correct Bf109G-14,G-10,K-4 auto pitch bugs (yes, known issue, I just list it)

-Revise P-47 rollrates at high speed, correct speeds at altitude /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

-solve P-40 dive bugs

-Revise Dora-9 1945 FM: Methanol injection has no effect, climb rate, speed being very low..

-Revise Me-262 FM: plane flies at 1100 km/h, unpowered dives are impossible, one-engine flight is next to impossible..

-Please make solution for the phenomenon that`s known as the Uberbig Muzzleflash, to improve FPS

-VERY MUCH NEEDED CORRECTION: Drop tanks for Bf109F

-WEP time on methanol-equipped 109: should be 10 minutes, not 3:30...

etc. Add your own.

I did already with the most important issues.. but that`s not the point here. It`s just a collection of bug issues - nothing less, nothing more.

Boandlgramer, with all respect, this forum exists precisely for the reason of posting messages like this one from Isegrim.

I'd also like to add a couple of bugs to the list:

AI bombers circle endlessly (often in enemy territory) after they lose their fighter escort.

When an AI flight leader is killed, flight comes under player's leadership, but leadership messages are still locked for the player, and so the player cannot then lead the flight.

When an AI plane uses up all its ammo, the AI 'return to base' routine only kicks in sporadically.

In the Finland map, there is a graphics bug that makes forests appear as blocks when the player's plane is under 200ft altitude. This only happens under DirectX.

Adding to the list:

1) Only host can kill most ships and Balloons

2) default windows mouse pointer occasionally pops up at center of screen and is unmovable but eventually goes away.

3) when minimized and then maximized FB will loose textures or things will turn wierd colors (ie pink runways)

4) FB will sometimes diconnect from server for no appearent reason

5) Fw 190F8 gets escort missions in stuka campaign.

6) Bf 110G2 is listed as 1942 but object viewer says it is 1943

7) airfield fires and other objects are misaligned at some airfields in campaign

8) climb rates and top speeds at nearly every altitude are off for almost all planes

9) I-16 and I-153 are completly invulnerable to 7.92mm MG17 unless PK'ed from above.

10) Me 262's R4M's reduce speed by too much, SC250's are fine

11) MK 108 accuracy, not even unrifled muskets are that inaccurate.

As we all know, the Soviet Union had too many fighter pilots during WW2. So Stalin's scientists came up with a brillient way to solve this problem. They would make some of their pilots fly British made Hurricanes. The Hurricane was an uber flying coffin. It was designed to maximize pilot kills by providing nothing but fabric and a few wooden spars around the cockpit. This setup prevented the pilot from escaping easily while at the same time not interfering with enemy bullets and shrapnel trying to pass through it. The rest of the Hurricanes structure was designed to ricochet bullets and shrapnel into the cockpit. And thanks to the cockpits superb design, all of them would pass through the cockpit and the pilot inside with little difficulty. Of course the Hurricane's designers didn't stop there. In order for the Hurricane to become a flying coffin, they had to make it easy to shoot. They did this by making the Hurricane the slowest monoplane fighter in use at the time and even gave it a very bulky shape so that it would be easy to spot and hit. The final feature of the Hurricane was its ability to bury or cremate itself. And because it was made of biodegradable materials, the Hurricane was environmentally friendly after it buried itself. Because of these brillient features, the Hurricane was a perfect flying coffin and helped the Soviets solve the pilot surplus they were suffering.

There is ALREADY a bug reporting thread. An official one, created specifically for this purpose. It has existed for several weeks and is now quite long and exhaustive. You can find it in Tech Support. Easy to find, it's a red-letter official thread.

Anyone who believes he knows of a bug in FB should go and find this thread, read through it to see if your bug has already been listed (most of those mentioned in this thread are already there), and if not then add it to the list, using the officially requested format.

Starting a second one serves no useful purpose, and creates extra work for the developers. If they bother to read it. I wouldn't, in their shoes. They already started a thread for this purpose and asked you to use it; why should they have to chase around over all the forums tracking down the people who couldn't be bothered?

If you want the bugs corrected, list them in the official thread, because that's the one the developers are going to read. In here, you're just peeing into the wind.

P-40E/M overheats too soon. Should have 5 minutes of military power. It overheats at 2.5 minutes. Both models too slow at all altitudes.

P-47(all) too slow at all speeds. Roll is off at all altitudes, but very incorrect at higher speeds. Dive acceleration ridiculously slow. Stall characteristics are incorrect.

Fw-190A/D armor. These planes could not resist long, multiple bursts of .50 cal fire into the control surfaces.

AI pilot/gunner accuracy.

AI pilots and body shots. When a bullet passes thru the canopy and the head of the AI pilot he should be dead.

This one I read over il2center forums, didn`t try it yet, but sure it`s this way.

Me-262 throttle bug. As default, the engine sets starting throttle position to 60% when game starts. However, if the player`s actual throttle on the joy is lower/higher than that, the engines will self destruct because the engine think the player moved the throttle SUDDENLY into the new position from 60%... result, engine on fire, or shuts down..

Hurricane needs ordnance for those underwing pylons, plus the MKIIC could carry external fuel tanks under the wings.

Yes, I have done my best.

Although I don't have much interest in going into greater detail at this point, unless I'm sure the developer is convinced and interested in taking a serious look at these issues.

Some of my main concerns:

-Yak-9 top speed too low.
-Fixing of planes resistant to small caliber machine guns (I-16, FW-190, etc.)
-Armor of FW-190A/D is way too tough, much tougher than P-47 and IL-2.
-Inaccuracy of Mk-108, too much left/right deviation.
-Sniper flak/AI gunners.
-Yak absorbs too many 20mm cannon rounds.
-Proper/more accurate modelling of pilot/crew kills.
-More similarity between planes regarding the vulnerability of damage to control surfaces.
-Improve performance of P-47 and P-40.
-Give P-39 its character back, more prone to stall.
-Lower top speed of FW-190 and Lagg-3 '43 series.
-Improve FW-190 climb and elevator response.
-Have fighter/bombers continue to target when there is fighter cover engaged with enemy instead of dropping bombs and engaging.
-Fix AI planes crashing into eachother.
-Tone down ridiculous flight models of AI planes.
-Make P-40 tougher, currently it is the most fragile plane in the game IMHO.
-Fix 103% throttle = no overheat bug.
-Tone down climb of 109E and Hurricane.
-Actually have different dive capabilities/acceleration for each plane.
-Have altitude effect performance more.
-Fix uber-muzzle flash, my game plays great but firing cannons on Me-262 damn near locks up my game.
-Make net/fabric hangers (whatever they are called) not act like concrete hangers as far as protecting the planes underneath them.
-Don't have being wounded at night act like infra-red, allowing you to see in darkness.
-Fix all the missing textures when Macci-202 is damaged, I've seen wings floating in air, etc. This is the only plane I have seen do this.

And one small request, eliminate, or tone down tint of glass in Yak-9 series.

There are many more, mostly AI/campaign bugs, but I'm tired and I'm going to bed.

One interesting thing to add..

When you start the game with DirectX video driver, you must instantly give full focus to the window. A common case for me is that when I start the game, my start bar remains visible in the bottom of the screen. Or, if I start the game and won't instantly minimize everything and click it's name in the task bar, my mouse will end up stuck in the game.

As at this point you're in the main menu, there are no keyboard shortcuts what-so-ever to move onwards: you MUST have the mouse. If I was using OpenGL, this wouldn't be a problem, as I can CTRL+ESC or ALT+TAB out of the game and back again, after which the mouse works flawlessly again.

If I use DirectX, my game crashes without any error messages when I try to resume by clicking on the game window's name in the Task Bar after minimizing it with either ALT+TAB or CTRL+ESC.

This is what I would call a serious bug...

All of the above items about fixing the FM and DM are niceties to me.

The only thing I truely want to be fixed is the freezing of the entire game either at random points or when shooting occurs. FM and DM makes the game unrealistic, but freezing makes the game virtually unplayable.

My next most wanted fix is to implement CEM as it was originally envisaged. Since Oleg has already admitted it is broken, I expect it will be fixed.

Actually Taz it's alive and well. Use the proper format for reporting bugs and go through the list and look for repeats.... I don't believe it's your decision as to what they use for reporting. Here is the link for everyone should they need it. After the patch it wil be locked and a new one will be created with a link to old to seperate new/old data.

AI crashes into ground frequently, esp. when beeing attacked on takeoff.

XyZspineZyX

-109s can carry 500kgs in FB. This is wrong. 250 was max.
-LaGG '41 seriously overmodelled. Climbs almost like FW-190 (-> 16m/s), but it's initial climb was just 8m/s, increasing to 10m/s @ 1000m and then decreasing according to russian (!) charts. It's the heaviest armed LaGG, but it got the FM of a light one from '42 or so.
-Several planes not overheating/or hardly overheating: FW-190D because of 90% beeing max power, (MW-50 109s take longer to overheat than in Il-2 due to 103% - but the times seem OK), LaGGs, Las, Hurri...
-P-40 overheating very quickly, P-39 not, but same engine. I don't have data, but it seems to me that the P-40 should have better cooling.
-P-40M has two gear supercharger, but same engine like E.
-B-239 has only one gear supercharger
-B-239 has US gauges instead of metric ones the Finnish built in
-B-239's turn is way off (21-22sec instead of 16-17sec)
-B-239 can't dive & zoom well, breaks very early
-Light planes like Hurri, I-#, Yak etc BnZ (Vertical) too good. Heavy planes like P-47/FWs have NO advantage (FW's still better in dive 'cos it's higher accelleration)
-AB bomb destroying objects don't give the player credit scores
-Often, no score for kills
-AB bomb don't work at all ONline (no damage)
-missing hitsounds online
-missing FFB shake when hit online
-FW-190 elevator is very heavy
-262 has no elevator authority drop @ speed, so it ca deflect fully @1000IAS without trim
-WGr.21 do little damage. Should splash way more (Splittergranate). Remember it's a 40kg charge. In FB it's not better than a ~0.25 charge RS-82.
-R4M have no splash damage at all, need direct hit
-R4M dragging way too much (262 top speed drops by 1/3)
-R4M range too low. It was aimed with Revi from over 1500m distance
-Heinkel loadouts way off. Ask Xanty /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif
-Heinkel speed way undermoddeled.
-190 ammo counters are wrong. They show L inner, L cowling, R cowling, R inner MG instead of L outer, L inner, R inner, R outer MG/cannon. Check original scanned Schießfibel by Adolf Galland: http://www.rafiger.de/Homepage/Pages/Schiessfibel.html
-109F-4/G-2 MG 151 has only 150 instead of 200 rounds
-190A-5 and later: inner MG 151/20 has just 200 instead of 250rpg
-190A-5 outer MG FF/M has only 60 instead of 90rpg.
-190D has way too much 131 ammo, haven't counted it, but it's ~900rpg, should be 475rpg.
-BI-1 and 262 are affected by non-existent propwash (BI-1 pulls to the left, 262 slighty to the right) - this is no torque! (said that before) - it's the propwash blowing on the vertical stab that "moves the ball off" in prop planes.
-Torque is way undermodelled. It's the effect that rolls the plane when giving thrust with prop. It should affect roll rate (eg 109s roll better to the left than to the right) and turn rate (it's said the 190A-4 can turn with Yak-7B in a left turn, but not in a right turn due to torque.
-110G is missing supercharger intake on one engine and a piece of strut in the gunner's canopy
-P-47 has no ball
-Allison MAP gauge is way off
-Allison & Merlin mix is off: only 100 and 120%. 120 gives a big boost in Hurri, but decreased power on Allisons. No Auto Lean or Idle Cutoff
-US altimeters have no 10'000ft markers
-temperature gauges are way off in several planes like P-39 and FW. They reach the highest position before the engine is overheating - so you can't tell by gauge like in reality.
-Gear one supercharger doesn't damage engine in low alt
-Constant Speed Props unable to overrev in high speeds or high accelleration (where the governor "lags" behind the acceleration) - no engine damage possible

I don't take this thread seriously as a bug report thread like this one. ORR actually IS for bug report and feature request. That thread in Tech forum should only be regarding tech issues like "I've got SB Live & VIA 133, my sound is bad" so others can see if their issues are known or it's his rig. But not for game bugs like this stuff here /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif .

EDIT another one, very important to me /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif :

-WGr.21 tubes are not jettisonable. One should be able to drop those dragging tubes via the "drop tank" (CTRL+T) command to get better flight performance.

Willey, not to sound stupid but don't you mean that supercharger position TWO doesn't damage engine at low altitude like it should? I don't know too much about CEM, so maybe I am wrong. In Yaks going to stage 2 gives a big boost at low altitudes, it is the only way to get near top speed. Hope this is all worked out.

yeah damn typo. Meant gear two doesn'T damage the engine in low alt. It gives more oxygen and should damage the engine similar to GM-1 used in low alt.

That one has been around since the day of release Willey. The format for bug reporting listed there is the format used in the Beta. I was asked to post that there at release so it can be followed. The problem with multiple threads is the information can be lost/looked over /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

Salute

Since Isengrim has by some strange oversight forgotten to mention the too high ground level speeds for the late 109's and 190's, /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif I would bring that to Oleg's attention as well. That, as well as any other aircraft which are not correctly modelled for speed, need to be checked. In fact all aircraft in the game should be checked for speed and climb.

Good luck on the 10 minute WEP Isengrim, since all the data I have read suggested maximum 5 minutes.

However the WEP time for some Soviet aircraft such as the La5FN and La-7 need to be checked as well.

Turnrate for LaGG-3 1941 model needs to be looked at.

No airstart after in air stalls needs to be changed. Any aircraft which can get its prop turning at a decent RPM should be able to re-airstart.

Hurricane is seriously overmodelled. It climbs way over 4000ft/min, turns sustained in 12 seconds and does more than 450km/h IAS on the deck.

Top speed:
Sea level: 418 km/h
At 5,425 m: 529,7 km/h
Turn time at an altitude 1,000 m: 19-20 sec
Climb to 6,100 m: 7,7 min

Climb rate on the deck is 3000ft/min according to butch2k

BTW IBTL 'cos the mods don't like whining /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif

Apparently Oleg would call this "a feature".. However, I think this is not the way the product should work, I mean, why is the mouse cursor stuck in the first place ?

Remember, without the cursor, you can't do very much in the FB main menu. The only choice is either to crash the game or end it with CTRL+ALT+DEL...

I quite understand what you guys are talking about here: "The game does not support dropping to
-- desktop....neither IL2 nor FB. Not a bug"

I can go back to my desktop at any time during play, either online or off, by hitting the Windows key. Then I can return by clicking on the program down on the task bar. This has always worked for IL-2 and FB

I have used the above technique to unstick the mouse. It works every time. Just hit the Windows key, once you're back at the desktop, click on the IL-2 program on the task bar, and you will be back in the menu with an unstuck mouse! This works while flying as well.

FFB spring force is gone when ALT-TABbing until one ReFlies which is just possible in DFs. Done in coops (for checking voice com or whatever if the host started too quickly /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif ) it's just bad for the feeling and makes flying harder.

If one shoots and keeps the button pressed, the stick will even shake when the guns got dry as long as one keeps it pressed. Release it and press it doesn't shake it which is OK.

In planes that have rockets or big cannons the "mortar" force effect is played once when pressing the 1st stick button (big push back), regardless if it fires rockets/big cannons or not.

P-39, red handles in instrument pannel are to un-jam nose MG's

MiG-3, handles in panel are there to un-jam nose guns

LaGG, also has handles to un-jam nose guns

La-5 and La-7 2x ShVak had handles to un-jam the guns.

Bf-109E,F,G,K all appear to have handles to un-jam the nose MG's, but not the cannon.

P-39 is a very uberplane in 1.0.

I tried this:

350km/h IAS. 50% throttle and then turn. I could use FULL stick all the time. Down to ~170km/h IAS that damn ufo just doesn't stall with full stick. There seriously is something wrong with it. It's similar to the Hurricane, just that it doesn't turn as sharp. Wasn't it a real "spinner"?? I also noticed it's sustained climb of over 3200ft/min... 2300ft/min would be correct.

Buzzspawn, you obvisouly did not read anything on the methanol 109`s WEP time - or anything other than for the 109E for that matter. It`s hard to understand what is the aim of you by spreading such unfounded MYTHS.

A thread about the very same question:

http://pub131.ezboard.com/fallboutwarfarefrm31.showMessage?topicID=2820.topi c

It`s noteworthy to mention, that this thread above was opened only a little later of Buzzspawn`s post, by SOMEBODY /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif who was concerned about the WEP time in il-2, and believed it was only 5 minutes.

It was 10 minutes, with 5 minute intervals. I hope it`s clear for you by now. Too bad you don`t go back to edit your posts in such cases, and correct the myths you have throw in... but that`s not as important when we are talking about certain planes, right?

MW fuel enough for approx. 25 minutes use on maximal, 50-60 mins on lower setting for cruise.

BTW, a warning text to warn about low MW-50 quantity should be added as well, as right now the MW-50 pressure gauge cannot be seen because the REVI block the view (perhaps it isn`t even working).

-
- However the WEP time for some Soviet aircraft such
- as the La5FN and La-7 need to be checked as well.
-

Yep, that should be 10 minutes as well for late La-5FN or La-7. Don`t know at what radiator setting or how is it looks in the game right now.

Skalgrim, are you sure?? I can never fly that fast in a Yak3(598km/h),not even close.. not with 96% and supercharger2 nor 110%. BTW, at 96% and supercharger2 can and will overheat after you fly it for a while, it just not as easy overheat as when you're using 110% (well, of course 110% is hotter than 96% right?)

Can you post a game record to show how you did that? with 100% fuel and level flight? stabilizer on? or you did it on the dive??

i mean 598km/h tas (true airspeed) with cockpit off view can you see tas

that are ias 580km/h,

have test with 100% fuel

you must gut trim and not forgotten wind dissable

h key for stabilizer for better level fly and trim until she not change course and altitude

it need time to get sealevel topspeed

but when the plane is perfect trim and you use stabilizer, can you use time accelerate

all test with 96% has she never overheat too after 20min not

that means with topspeed will she never overheat

then you can not fly faster as with 96% throttle

FB problems.

With trackfiles:
Somethimes can't use 'Escape'button during playing and have to wait till almost the entire track to escape !

Somethimes when using cockpit vieuw with the Manual vieuw control off, the forward vieuw at the start will not be aligned, and give a diffrent vieuw then the original recorded one (I can overcome this by restarting the track with Manual vieuw enabled centering the vieuw with the F1 button, Escape and Play the track with Manual off this time.)

A lot of times the enemy a/c is blocked by the player a/c in F6 button vieuw (external vieuw with the enemy locked) could this be enhanced by chanhing the camera vieuw point so that the player a/c will not block!?

In the F3 vieuw (Flyby vieuw) wich is one of my favorite vieuws for Dogfights the point where the flyby is repeated will differ, it will repeat when you shoot wich spoils the great Dogfight overvieuw look and mostly the effect if you hit your opponent. (I think the repating should be player controlled only by pushing the buttton each time you want to repeat the flyby or look at your plane fliyng of to the horizon or shooting at the enemy!)

The message doesn't mean anything, jamming guns in Il-2 is impossible, only damage will jam them.

Easy test, fire any gun in the game until the bullets run out. You will never jam. For example UBS should jam after ca. 15 rounds in a row. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

The Stuka:

Nav and landinglights don't work.

Rear landing gear wheel is always stuck in locked position both visual and in use.

With bomb relaese there is no sound of the atachments clicking open or the swivel arm ramming forward neither the jumping upwards effect after relaese. wich was featured in IL2!

The Jericho trumpete are not loud enough!
They should give you goose bumps or terror!

The G-1 usaly had 1x MG that remained installed inorder to aim with the tracers before firing the preciuos few 3.7cm rounds. This is featured on the A.I. Henschel HS129.

The late version of the BK 3.7cm was able to penetrate almost any armour it should be able to kill a the medium T34 with ease but even heavy tanks. It left only a small hole in the tank and gave a metal on metal flash on armour but did not explode in the ground.
These cannon rounds should not explode on treetops!

The Stuka is verey weak when fired at it loosing its wings and especialy the rough terrain heavyduty landing gear much to easy! somethime it did lose these because of hitting the water after a strike! the latest models had exploding charges to blow them both off enabling a belly landing if one leg was lost (In FB it doesn't seem a problem to land on one leg tough! did it several thimes noticing only at the last moment that something was wrong.
Ground controllers would use special signal symbol roundels with a 'R' or 'L'to warn the aproaching Stuka's if there was a leg missing.)

Kees.

1, Bf109 K-4 is missing its Flettner tabs from the ailrons. Those are similiar little deflecting planes than the one that can be found on the rudder - it deflects to the opposite side, and makes the airflow help your job by reducing control forces. Though I believe its effect is there, K-4s roll better than the rest.

2, The fuel consumption/fuel gauge of the 109F behaves very strangely. You can fly half an hour without the pointer moving at all (it shows 400 liters for a long long time), then suddenly the fuel level starts to decrease very quickly. The engine temp. gauge is similiar, its stands at 120 degrees, witout overheating message.

The two heavy artillery pieces, the 150mm and 152mm guns, don't cause explosions on the ground where they hit. They will destroy objects when hit, but their rounds don't explode on impact when just hitting the ground.
