View Full Version : A few more stationary objects

We now have the mortar teams so we could have nice stretches of trenches. Trenches with the top half of soldiers pointing in the same direction.

Also rolled barbed wire and roadblocks that can be destroyed by planes trying to create a stretch of usable space through fixed defenses.

Thanks and keep the stationary objects coming!

I could use some mechanics, a work table as well as some spare engine parts, maybe even a tarp to spread over a engine for some inspections.

Hey, some crates of verious sizes too. Like Ammo crates, supply boxes etc. Makes for some good airfield scenery.

Indeed. Also, blank versions of maps like Wake island and Midway.

True, sad that whoever did wake didn't realize that the whole value of an atoll is that there is a HARBOR inside the reef, and the piers should be on the INSIDE not out in the surf.

If they weren't aware of that little factoid, they might have just googled a picture of Wake.

You can really think of all kind of objects to be added. There is almost no limit to imagination, also just open a book of photographs of WW2, I'm sure that you have in no time sveral objects that could be created.

Actually, many objects should be fairly easy to do, like houses or tents or barbwire, like mentioned above.

What is Oleg's opinion about third parties creating objects? If there is an opening to give to the community some objects in further patches I would give it a go and do some.

Best,

Just did what I said above, I looked into a book , and came up with an idea for an object:

Rows of bombs lying on the ground, waiting to be charged into bombers.

Of course this should be done for several sides and several bomb types.

Well, that's just one, but there are hundreds of possibilities.

Yep, if they could put out an importer or plugin for 3DSMax or Gmax, we (I) could do many these and more. 3rd parrty support community could really take this sim further.

This engine was never designed to be "opened" to external folks. An SDK is out of question, too -

a) It costs too much money for MG to develop.
b) It would be against their business policy to keep the code to themselves.

Maybe I can bribe Oleg into adding such stuff into BoB (I already established contact between him and a guy from the german board - who is now doing railway stuff for BoB http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif).

Yeah, not for planes, or even moviing objects with more complicated DMs, just simple ground objects---maybe 2 catagories.

Indestructable objects and objects that have the exact DM of buildings now.

Ever notice that there are a few objects in game that we don;t get in the FMB?

The tall tree object scattered around would be very useful since it is the same height as the 2D stacked forest areas.

The smaller bridges would be very nice to have as well (RR and road).

There might be more, but those leap out at me.

Perhaps it's time to start compiling a list of ground objects for BoB?

I would suggest that you contact Oleg or maybe post for Sasqon. I doubt there is much time, but I'd think, given time and resources objects would be welcome. But if there isn't time and resources to put them in, then the answer'd be no....I think the DM's and doing them right with a 3D model tool would be tough.

I'd really think the following would be cool:

Light gun emplacements like Machinegun nests
trenches and more ground objects to blow up
Those little tractors toting around bombs and such
US fuel truck
Some ground objects like trucks loaded with something that goes boom when hit
More small ships...pt boat, frigates, sanpans etc
People...but I think this is somewhat off limits
A placeable Island with airstrip

Thats just for starters...I'm a big fan of mission building so too many objects is never enough...MB has never been a strength of FB though...that is one feature of CFS2 that is hands down the best I've ever used...it would be nice to combine that with Jane's ideas of placing entire armored divisions and such!

Imagine the immersion to have armored division squaring off against each other!

I heartily agree. Given that the Pacific theatre was full of amphibious invasions these objects would be excellent for beaches and for shipping ports. Heck, the model is already in PF, the cargo dropped out of LD-2's.

No reason why it couldn't be put in the next/last patch....please? http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

Here's what a stack of the cargo boxes already in game would look like:

Here's the tarped stuff on a train car, with the train car edited out:

Perfect Tater! Stacks could be assigned points, supplies/foodstuffs (Stationary Object Supply Crate) would be worth 5 points and just show damage, munitions (Stationary Object Ammo Crate) would be worth 10 points and explode.

Now, how can we convince Oleg?

Yeah, we need them to be objects that can be assigned as a "color" for score purposes like trucks. Could show up in score as "materiel."

Light Water Craft are truely missing in the game. Small ships (6-20ms) should be used for river crossings (eg. resupplying Stalingrad).

Also Barges were just as important targets as trucks historically. They were hit more often than airfields and bridges. Just read a bit of history or a squadron's log (straffed barge, bombed barge on and on).

How many small boats should be on a map with just rivers?

Like Moscow for example? How much were the rivers used to patrol or transport by either side?

Or were rivers just there to be crossed as quickly as possible?

You can make MG nests quite easily already, we have the objects

A tarp for many purposes is available; it looks like a tent that is open

Crates would be nice. So would small gaurdhouses, and wire fences, 10' tall, for prison camps

be cool to have boxes with various points, like 10, 50, 100,200, 500, 1000

so u could use them for important targets to be destroyed, like that buliding with hitler in for example...

and have them red and blue, for easy spamage in fmb...

I'd save polygons and just make some larger 6 poly objects with the detail in the texture, too.

Same with some new gasoline drums. 55 gallon, and stacked on their sides like wood.

Note that a few simple rectangles, one about big enough for a jeep inside it, another just big enough for a P-40 minus the wings (or with the wings off an folded along the sides). Then have various textures. Some could have been crated aircraft, others could be textured to pass as wooden dock areas, or concrete boxes the CBs used. Add a log texture, and you have a new revetment type.

We have Japanese, British and US mortar teams, why not German, Soviet, Finnish mortar teams (just a little skinning) ?

They are great to animate front lines.

If possible, other types of infantry positions (machine guns ...).

Brilliant idea! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif
- especially regarding stuff for "frontline" demarkations. Something like two foxhole varieties, one with two or three 'soldiers' and smaller one with only one soldier. could be as simple as a flat texture with very few polys on top if done thoughtfully.

Here is a new idea for a super easy new ground object.

Take the largest water tower in game, and remove the water tank.

Instant Oil Rig. Make it a "sided" object (red/blue) so it can be an attack objective.
