1 Erich "bubi" Hartmann
2 barrel length
3 Fairey Swordfish
4 Shoho, battle of Coral Sea I guess 07.05.1942 was the exact date of sinking. BTW it`s Imperial, not Royal Japanese Navy
5 Tobruk(wild guess-El Alamein was no port, right?)
6 too much, more than 50 million
7 Dunkerque(I must receive an extra point for spelling it right) about 335-350 000 people
8 something meaning the house will fall down. What he did not consider was that the falling house would kill the intruder(just made this up)
9 Gen Student, I guess
10 Maybe Gen. Montgomery(If I became a commander of a group of rodents, I would not brag around about it.)

"All that is gold does not glitter,
Not all those who wander are lost;
The old that is strong does not wither,
Deep roots are not reached by the frost.

From the ashes a fire shall be woken,
A light from the shadows shall spring;
Renewed shall be blade that was broken,
The crownless again shall be king."

8) '...whole rotten structure will come crashing down.'

Sorry for the typo on #4, of course I meant IJN, not RJN :-)

Answers are straight from my sources (WWII texts).

Overall, very well answered.. except for #4 (only one got it right) and a lot of variance in #6.

Scores:

LeLv30_Finwolf ... 9/12
tenmmike ... 9/12 (it is a factor bore, but length is acceptable)
fluke39 ... 8/12
Cippacometa ... 4/12
Ankanor ... 11/12

I was pretty leniant with #8!

I might do another trivia tommorrow.

1) Hartmann

2) Navy ships don't have "guns", they have rifles. The number 50 designates caliber, the ratio of the barrel length to bore diameter. Those rifles are 400 inches long.

3) A Swordfish.

4) Shoho, battle of Coral Sea. "Scratch one flattop"

5) Tobruk, Libya. Easter 1941

6) A whole lot. You'll have to define "in". If you include everyone who died DURING the war including people who died as an indirect result, it's over 50 million.

7) Dunkirk. Every last one.

8) "... entire rotten structure will come crashing down." or whatever the German equivalent was. Unlike the Klingons on Star Trek, the Germans did not speak English conveniently to one another. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

9) L¶hr

10) Monty

Further comment on question 9: Sudent and Hitler had a conference and planned the invasion. General L¶hr was the guy who actually executed it.

Darn, I thought "RJN" was a typo for "RN", in which case it would have been that flattop lost off Norway or whatever; was that the Gloucester or something like that?
