Just if you haven't noticed it yet, I have a good suggestion for all Pe-8 pilots out there:

Log in at Slammin's Hyperlobby server, just named "Slammin". It features a scripted battle between blue and red team, both sides start with 55 planes and 45 pilots, your objective is simply to defeat the enemy... BY ALL MEANS. Teamwork is the key to success.
Of course, both sides have the full list of planes available, except for the 262, but INCLUDING the ai PE-8. Both sides have one airfield, and there's always a new map loaded once the objective is achieved. Server currently cycles through 3 maps (or was it 4? /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif )

And without wanting to overrate the presence of the Pe-8, a successful attack of ONE Pe-8 can easily destroy 3 - 6 enemy planes, not only on the ground by bombing, but also thanks to the Pe-8's defensive power.

My personal recommendation: load 4 x fab 1000 or 2 x fab 1000 + 1 x fab 2000; these loadouts will give you the best amount of destruction per bomb while you still can safe your own plane. Trust me, a fellow Pe-8 once dropped a fab 5000 while we both were relatively close over the enemy airfield... and we both got trashed by the blast.

FLYING FORTRESS FANS LOOK HERE: recently, we were honored by the presence of Slammin himself, and I asked him if he will include the B-17 once it's released. His answer was just "yes, of course" /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif .

Now, all we need is that free add-on patch, and the heavy bomber fun can go into overtime!!!

One last request, this time to the FIGHTER JOCKEYS: my experiences have shown me that the success of a bomber's flight often depends on the friendly fighters nearby. If the fighters do a good job in keeping the enemy busy (especially the heavily armed ones like 109 or 190 with Mk 108 / Mk 108 pods), then the bomber can pay them back by unleashing a nice amount of destruction on the enemy airfield.

A little Pe-8 and 5000KG bombing tip...set the delay fuse to about 7 seconds, you should survive the ensuing blast.

What? Any problems with my respect towards guys like Slammin?

See, I think we owe the hosts of the "big" servers a lot, especially when the server is running nearly 24/7 and offers a lot of entertainment.
That's the reason why I consider it an honor having that person around in the game.

I know some fellow pilots out there agree. And if you don't, that won't change my point of view anyway.

S! and see you out there,

PE-8 is good as dead, if the server is 43 and onwards, when MK108 is introducted.. it eats PE-8s for breakfast.. or if it is a and there is rockets in planes..

Kinda takes the fun away from bombers imho is the fact, because Rockets in this game is way too accurate. When you fly 20 min to target just to be blown away by rockets with one pass.. sucks

I kinda lived in a cave for about 2 months... The mighty Pe-8 is flyable? Really?

"All that is gold does not glitter,
Not all those who wander are lost;
The old that is strong does not wither,
Deep roots are not reached by the frost.

From the ashes a fire shall be woken,
A light from the shadows shall spring;
Renewed shall be blade that was broken,
The crownless again shall be king."

Having planes available with Mk 108 is one thing, but also having pilots that fly a plane with that weapon and manage to use it effectively is something else.

In all my encounters, only about half of the attackers with Mk 108 were able to "eat up" my Pe-8. The others either didnt hit it crittically or missed completely.

I only recently started to enjoy flying bombers in addition to fighters online. I really like the bombers (I haven't played any bomber campaigns yet in the game); the advanced engine management and control of gunners is a real blast!

It's thrilling when you are given an escort by other players and sink a ship/blow-up some planes. It provides a unique opportunity for team work and strategy. Again it is just great fun.

Therefore, it is strange that so many servers don't include bombers in their list of available aircraft. Even if dogfighting is the main focus, it seems a bomber always attracts a lot of interest/fun for the opposing squad. Something to think about as we create new maps.

Cheers to that!

Talking about attracting the enemy! I repeatedly find myself being the main target of 2 - 4 enemy fighters.

That is, of course, mostly happening on those unfortunate flights were my allied fighters are who-knows-where, and my little self heads directly for the hornets' nest.

I have flown the slammin PE 8 and it is a hoot.

I easily got my highest kills of the night from the gunners as they picked off E/A with ease. Fine chaps.

I will however remember to put a time delay on the 5000KG next time. Especially when bombing from 50 feet.

The amazing disappearing PE 8!

Greatest Pe-8 experience I ever had: I killed ever opposing team member twice in one pass. That was my gunners, my Fab-5000 got two kills and an AA gun. first wave got chewed up (this is in 1.0 where the gunners where lasers, instead of the current snipers), and the second wave trying to extract revenge on me got eaten by my dual 20's facing aft.

I landed the plane with one engine missing, and all three of the others trailing smoke, heavy fule leakes, giant holes in the wings, large peices of fuselage missing, but the brute was still airworthy. Somehow I found my self at the top of the 's' list at the end of that run . . . .

hah, I got so many kills that night . . . best is dropping a 5000 on a plane that is taking off . . . they are TOAST!!

haha, waht fun!

Has anyone managed to destroy a chasing fighter by dropping a large bomb at low level yet? I think it could be possibleto do that.

Not a chasing fighter, but an approaching fighter. Just needs some good timing and an enemy that pulls up relatively late. And of course, nothing smaller than Fab1000.

I cant stand slammins server anymore since he added the pe8, always morons going in there dropping the 5000lber on thier own runway then switching to the other team doing to same thing till the script ends in 5 minutes.

I been flying in greatergreen and virtualpilots server, The regulars in there are extremely good, some of the best competition, and teamwork

Me thinks you easily give up... I also encountered a guy named BULLROT who messed up blue teams' pilot and plane stock for a full map cycle (3 maps), although I repeatedly asked him what he's doing, he just stated "sorry" once, and only left after he probably lost interest.

But apart from such weirdos, it's really cool at Slammin's server. Besides, you won't let occasional appearing guys like Bullrot ruin your fun, right? If you stay away, those morons win.
Besides, after Bullrot had left and another pilot had sorted his problems with his PC, we had some incredible battles, and long ones too. I think one battle was even the longest and toughest I ever participated in at Slammin's server. The outcome was a victory for my blue team, but with only a mere handful of planes and pilots left.

I've just checked the servers you mentioned, but none of them has externals on, and I bet there aren't any nice ai birds available as well.
And only greatergreen is well populated, virtualpilots only has about 6 ppl on.
On the other side, Slammin is FULL. Slammin is nearly always full. That sure tells me I'm not the only one who enjoys the maps, the script, the planes available (with PE-8, also used frequently) and the possibilty to look around freely and enjoying the full show, not just the small part you can see from your stuck-in-cockpit view.

And I have been witnessing and participating in many teamed engagements. If I remember correctly, you often headed out, flying high up with maybe one teammate, and doing high alt stunts while people like myself in the Pe-8 or He-111 had to face some incoming bogeys nearly alone, since the other fighters were already in combat. THANKS ALOT.
So no complaining about lack of teamplay when you repeatedly fail to provide assistance for more vulnerable teammates.

S!, and I hope to see you again on Slammin's battlefields.

P.S.: Don't take it personal Leadspitter, just my 2 cents.
