Check this link:

It explains how to set up pedals and a joystick.

OK here it is , I don't want to use the pedals for the time being . I can't get the saitek to set in the hotas section when I for instance click yaw and then twist the stick nothing happens, same with roll, but the throttle and pitch work fine , anyone know whats up?

Did you install the Saitek drivers?
If so was the stick plugged in when you installed?
If not that could be the problem. Try uninstalling the drivers and plugging in the stick when prompted.
I've never encountered the problem you describe with either the X-45 of X-52.

Also, don't forget to take full advantage of the excellent profiling software Saitek provides. That could be used to override the pedal drivers.

There is also IL2 Sticks for changing settings in the config file. You could use it to set up a profile with and without the pedals attached. (sorry, no link. Check Airwarfare or google)

Edit: Heres the link

Scroll down to Essential Files. Look under Joystick Utilities. Called IL-2 Stick Sensitivity Tool

Good luck,
