Oleg may be the only one in the world that may know the answer to this question.

I've just about wore Google out on it.LOL

Where is the fuel gauge on the i16 and the 153? Or did they even have one.

I don't know, I can't find a cockpit photo. I do know that some contemporary aircraft had none, or a fuel gauge you wouldn't recognize...for example, Howard Hughes' Racer had clear plastic piping around the instrument panel. When the piping had no fuel left in it, you were out of gas...

I'll look again, this is a great question

Yes that last pic is right - it displays "Fuel in KG".

That's the I-16 - I don't think there is one in the Chaika that we can see.
