View Full Version : Please give us late war Tempest V 11lb boost

I understand that with the Tempest V at 11lb there is the issue of limited documentation for climb rates but please can you give us a close approximation? Documents have been sent but these were not comprehensive enough. There is great difficulty in finding the required documents which may not even exist. We do know however that the Tempest V at 11b boost did conclusively see service.

However, it would be excellent to have a 1945 performance Tempest V 11lb boost to compete with the Fw 190 D9 and K4. These two aircraft types were its main fighter opponents. The Tempest V we have at the moment was used generally against the V1 Flying Bombs and therefore has limited online application in a Fighter vs Fighter sense against the best fighters the Luftwaffe can field.

Remember the Tempest V 9lb boost that we have at the moment only just reaches historical performance as it is and with regards to continous cruise and climb without overheat it falls badly short of its real life counter part. I realise that this is probably due to the game engine but it badly hampers an otherwise excellent aircraft.

As the British have no Meteor or Spitfire XIV, the Tempest really is our only late war fighter (ignoring the Mustang III) and even then it is only a summer 1944 performance variant.

Thanks<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

from other UBI thread which shows that Tempest V was running at 11lb boost without 150 octane fuel from Autumn 1944 onwards.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

It's true that if it doesn't require further 3d modelling , it would be a very good addition to the sim for 4.08 http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

No external or Cockpit changes required as far as I know.

As for FM changes, this may be a huge simplification but if we know level speed at 11lb boost and we know engine HP, aircraft weight hasnt changed neither has any part of the airframe or wing, climb rate could be extrapolatred from this data then compared to 9lb climb data for curve similarity.

Wonder how they got Lerches climb data?<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

We only have level speed up to 8000ft and for Tempest with SabreIIa engine. Sorry guy but according to everything I've heard about this thing(and I've heard A LOT) it ain't going to happen...<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Brain check out the Hawker Forum at CWOS, look at the link I posted.

I looked at the Tempest website too and I see no one responded to your post http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

This is such a tricky situation. There isn't any solid charts that we could find. I'm all for a "Tempest Mark V, 1945" on the list. That'd be grand. No changes to the external model are required one bit. If we did the really rare Tempest V with Sabre IIC engine and Rotol propeller like Pierre Closterman's "Le Grande Charles" then a bit of a fix to the propeller blade...but for a Sabre IIA or Sabre IIB Tempest? Nothing at all external that I know of. We already have a series II plane externally.

But it would be a fair bit more competitive in the 1945 scenarios that we tend to use it in given thats its the most historically important period for the plane. It fits in the 1944 D-Day and post D-Day scenarios...but not on a huge historical level (just one or two missions across the channel during this period) and when it does...it totally outclasses the opposition (http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif) so its hard to add to a MP scenario.

Anyways...pipe dream of mine. I LOVE having the plane regardless and its just such a good plane to have in the sim I'm very thankful that we even have it.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

It's a great plane - partly because of the performance, partly because of the firepower, mainly because of the beautiful cockpit and external modelling and textures... Shame about the huge armour-plate behind the pilot's head, and the tendency to run out of wings at about 700kmph, but I can live with that!

I'm reasonably happy taking on the Luftwaffe on WarClouds in '44 scenarios with the Tempest.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

The wings falling off is due to its good elevator, it is very sensitive. I agree that a large part o fthe pleasure I derive from flying it is because of its looks! It is the best 3D model in game imo. The armour plate is crippling in FR servers and you NEED a wingman on TS otherwise your a target because of this lack of visability. It should be like the P51 D if not better.

Im very happy taking on 44 opposition and I will take on Jets and D9 45s K4s you name it. It would be nice to have the proper performance to do that however !<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Im gonna mail the guys you posted a link too. It seems they have allot of napier heritage stuff there. I think its mostly to do with pre ww2 aviation and napiers racing engines though.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

The documents we need to exsist. There in the UK national archive. Its no small task though. I keep meaning to go up there and take a look but it could take days if not weeks to find what we need.

Now I know for a fact the RAE used the Tempest for speed trials almost every day for a year using different settings and this was seperate to Hawkers own testing, some of that data must exist somewhere.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

I still dont understand why it cannot be estimated and put in, some things are harder to find than others. But if we have aircraft that are clearly estimations ie the Bf 109 Z then why not have one more ?<div class="ev_tpc_signature">
