I've noticed we still seem to have some of the same problems as before with the AI doing squirrel manuevers.

Example:

18 bombers in 6 groups of three

I set a descent rate of about 1000m in 8 Km. Some of the bombers seemed to tack along and descend properly then they'd just do a roll, dive and climb erratically, etc. This kinda stuff went on throughout the descent. It seemed random, at least I couldn't discern a reason for it. It was just straight line flight with a minor descent.

The waypoint they were headed to was 2 waypoints from the target waypoint, which was not SET. It was just a GAttack waypoint.

I could understand maybe if the waypoint they were headed to was the target waypoint, and maybe the distance was too great...the bombers would make attempts at setting up for targeting.

The big problem is they collide with each other A LOT

I've noticed we still have AI belly landing on the runway and the following aircraft running into them. When I have large groups of aircraft landing, usually the mess just disappears after awhile. I can understand maybe one aircraft crashing into a disabled plane on the runway...I guess, it's just stinkin' thinkin' to believe the AI would just keep crashing into the disabled aircraft and the junk from the other crashes. You'd think they'd circle the airbase or something.

There are more I've noticed, but this'll do for now. I'd appreciate reading from others' experiences of peculiar things a'happnen'.

I've also noticed when the AI lands, it disapears.

Not sure why that happens as well.

I've seen the planes disappear after they land as well.

Actually that might not be such a bad thing. I recall many times prior to this patch when I had a large group of aircraft landing on the same base they would begin to run into the parked aircraft. The landing aircraft would taxi to empty spots for a while...and "wahla" they'd start trying to park in an occupied place. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Just a little side note:

I was watching the film "Battle of Britain", with Laurence Olivier, Michael Caine, Robert Shaw, Susannah York, etc. I remember the comment the flight leader made to a new pilot about not stunting around, because the RAF needed him to be alive with an airplane to fly tomorrow (in so many words).

So, the AI flying like squirrels is probably not "A GOOD THING OR HISTORICALLY BASED".

The planes disappeared in 1.0. You just had to wait a LONG time for that to happen. You also got the kill if the pilot ran away... dunno why people are noticing just now.

I've been testing this lil' problem about the crazy manuevers when the AI are descending in altitude. I've tested it in the FMB with 1000m/2000m changes within short and long distances. Same thing everytime. Doesn't seem to matter what type of aircraft are involved. I tested with the JU88s and BF109G.

After seeing this for a while I conclude this is a real problem. A four aircraft group AI collide about 60% of the time. The manuevers are just stupid looking and appear to have no purpose.

There have been AI changes for the good. There are still other issues with the AI that need to be dealt with. I'm gonna watch a while, maybe put up a track at some point. I just don't want to put up a site to have to accomodate issues with IL2-FB /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Go into your settings and change the option for Drunken Pilot from Perfect to Excellent.

In the LW fighter campaign, I had two flights collide with terra firma whilst circling the strip. I had landed and one had been shot down. The other six were parked under towering smoke columns.

It's only funny til someone loses an eye....then it's hilarious

Noticing some bombers (seems to depend on type) try to go vertical when attacked. For example, I was closing on a group of 4 He-111s in QMB and as I got within 1k or so, one plane in the group suddenly pulled hard up until he stalled, gained some more speed and then pulled hard up again. They were not changing flight paths, as the other 3 continued to fly straight and level in formation. Have noticed this repeatedly with He-111s.

i've seen this happen a couple times and there are a few reasons i can think of. the bomber groups seem to fly in much closer formations now but if they get too close to another plane, tehy will attempt to avoid a collision by swerving out of the way. sometimes in its attempt to avoid another plane it will spin to the ground or into another plane. also, when a plane is being shot at it will try to take defensive action. when they try to avoid being shot, they will turn into the flght group and all the planes will go nuts trying not to collide. on the plus side, if you manage to snap off a wing of the planes while they are pulling up or turning hard, they go into a nice, violent spin. fun to watch

I observed the BI-1 AI while cruising, and it seems to apply power in rapid bursts. This makes it look like a steam locomotive "chugging" along, with round puffs of smoke behind it.

I stopped playing Campaings because of the escort mission on LW side.

Escort missions are fun but the AI performance is just horrible. Insted of flying next to the bomber group in auto pilot they circle around the bombers doing incredible manouvers to keep up with flight leader. Now this is all nice untill one of your flying circus flyers collide and the terrible Radio screaming begins.

I just find this kinda AI flying plain stupid and would really like to put end to the AI colliding. Iam sure colliding happened in RL too but now there seems to be collidings in every escort mission I play. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

and the autopilot still likes to find a nice place to crash. And autopilot-driven pland doesn't need fuel.At least my 109.../i/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif
