This is a pretty neat website about the mysterious U-boat nicknamed "U Who" discovered off the coast of New Jersey, USA. The wreck was not supposed to be in those waters and was firmly denied by both the German and US authorities until presented with the evidence. An interesting read Shadow Diversis a book that chronicles the discovery of the U-Boat and its tragic cost in human lives. Definitely worth reading. Incidentally, both the divers are now featured in DeepSea Detectives-a show on TV about two divers exploring the ocean bottom, and putting to rest various myths or fictional accounts of maritime historical events. Recently they dove Scapa Flow to examine the Imperial German Fleet that was scuttled there. They put to rest the myth of German Officers being hanged from yardarms by mutinous German sailors when the fleet was scuttled. Anyway, I hope you enjoy the website- A.M.

Thank you.

I was touched by some of the stories - the deaths are such a waste; trite to say so, but still true.

The story of Herbert Guschewski and what he acheived in life by missing the boat is inspirational; well I thought so.

"though the waters claimed
them to it's silent ranks,
their legacy is not of fame
but duty done with no thanks.
There but for the given grace,
the roll of a dice of history
in a dif'rent time and place;
another life lost in mystery"

If you click on the Nova Hitlers Lost Sub link at the website, it will allow you to examine the wreck. According to Harry Cooper, of Sharkhunters the submarine was sunk by its own acoustic homing torpedo, but I don't think so because it appears to me that the sub was sunk from a catastrophic incident [I]inside[I] the submarine- what do you think?

Nah... it had to be a circle runner. The damage was just too destructive for the location (midship) to have been an internal problem.
