Do you know that the US had 2 airship each fitted with 5 fighters innside.
Look at this film.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IG2QNh6jCo8

The airship had a speed of 100km/h
The fighters could be taken inside on a big hangar deck.
The idea was to use them in overlooking the big oseans.
Two fighters started out at a 60 degree to each side in 200km/h, the arship went stright ahead in 100km/h after one houer the fighter turned
60 degrees against the airship and they met one houer later.
In this way tey could search a wide area.

Unfortunately they both crasshed.
Maybe they could have found the japanece before they reached Pearl Harbour, if they had existed ?

would be nice to have this option in some flightsim... 'landing' might be a challenge I guess http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif

I'll be sure to watch this when I get home. Thanks for the link.

Aviation History magazine had a feature on the USS Macon year or so ago. It's wreakage was found off the California coast a few years ago.

Anyone who drives past Moffet Field in Mountain View California can see the massive hangers from the freeway.

Extremely cool! If only we had the IL2 1932 edition instead of the 1946 and we'd have airships and in flight-docking! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gifhttp://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif I love those biplanes as well, a Curtiss fighter I believe... (I just love zeppelins somehow!)
