I think I might pack it in here lol unless this place becomes a bit more friendly again

Seriously, whats happened to forum etiquette and humour, and can all the people arguing about aircraft move to ORR.

All those arguing about personal things be banned?

I don't mean the guys who just talk about aircraft and talk about charts nicely, I mean the ones who start using personal insults.

There needs to be some etiquette rules laid down. Really, all the NASTY arguing is spoiling everything for the guys who do take historical issues and aviation a bit more seriously and the guys who post more humorous threads.

Oh and the German thing says Peace through killing all of your enemies...or something like that

Hey, how about we introduce a caste system? We could have the Ordinary caste of regular Joes who like to fly in Il-2 and discuss the game and WW2 history in a not-too-serious way. Then we could have the Evangelical caste whose mission on Earth - sorry, on this forum - is to advance the public's knowledge of their favourite aircraft type through much scanning of charts, Orders Of Battles, air ministry reports and so on, who are authorised to battle each other in carefully regulated threads, and are guaranteed sanctuary threads where no opposition may be presented. And a Jester class, who are allowed to make personal attacks but must wear some sort of 'DUNCE' symbol as an avatar. And then the Moderator caste, who would need to hold the whole thing together, and Guru caste, people who have materially contributed to the Il-2 universe, which would include developers, the people from TrackIR and GoGamer, 3rd party aircraft and utility developers etc.

The idea is that the forum 'specialists' should be bound to a code of behaviour specific to their 'speciality' and clearly identified. I.e., if Megile is of the Jester caste, he can make off-colour jokes about the various Evangelicals and get away with it, but he would be barred from posting charts or making serious contributions to FM debates.

The forum would continue much like it does now, but everything and everyone would be more clearly labelled.

Hey, we could make an ISO standard for forum caste conduct!

(Sorry guys, I'm revising for a 'manufacturing' exam, my mind is full of Critical Path Analysis (which is about pavement quality monitoring for all I know) and Variety Control and... other things... where clearly-identified processes and systems and objects are useful. Plus it's 2am and my blood alcohol is critically low.)

How about a reorganization of the forums? Put all the current stuff in searchable archives. Make a new set of forums in the following fashion:
Humor and musings posts
Computer technical issues
Real aircraft posts (a good place for chart monkeys)
IL2 game series specific questions
Storm of War game series specific questions

Very Fuedal of you. And if anyone in the Jester caste doesn't behave with sufficient buffoonery, they are penalised by a series of demerits. Proper buffoonery is rewarded by "C points", or "Caste Points", which they may redeem at the skeeball end of the arcade. Any caste could of course get C points, be they of any caste, such as but not limited to: Jester, Engineering, Blind Guesser, Pot Stirrer, Researcher, etc.

An elaborate system of checks and balances will reduce Demerits and C points to a common value. All rulings by the judges are final. You will start with perhaps 10 C points. Each behavorial deviance costs 1 C point for a minor breach or first offence, 3 for gross misconduct Unbecoming your Caste, and 5 for offensive and personal posts outside of your caste, which could also represent a Caste member's posting of extensive and correct information of an opposing or higher caste

Which of course brings me to Caste Level. because that's what Caste is: determining your social standing

At the top would be Admin or "Ruling Caste". next could be Moderations or "Disciplinary Caste". Then, a lucky few could demonstrate such ability to transcend caste that they would make up the next highest, or "Priveledged caste", made up of those who demondtrate a mastery of no less than 3 other castes that border on their own or other castes they have mastered. Caste mastery could be on a percentile basis, and caste transcendance could be acheived through mastery of one caste, and progress to the next highest

Castes would go down through "Data manipulaters Caste", to "Pot Stirrers", "Jesters" and finally the "Muck Children" caste. The entirre system could be monitored and evaluated on a bi-weekly basis, and on the findings of an inquest committe made up of 2 reps from each of the Admin and Disciplinary casts, and then one rep from the three highest "regular" members castes. Membership on the committe would of course be egalitatrian and determined by rota

Hmmm... I'd actually support a mass bannage wholeheartedly, was it not for the fact that I would probably be amongst those getting banned! So can't really support that, as much as I'd definitely like to http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Oh come on, msalama, have some Stalinist aplomb about it: propose an unconditional mass bannage of all your opponents, all your sorta opponents, all your kinda opponents, and all the people who haven't praised one of your postings ever as an act of forum security to eliminate hackers, spammers, and perverts (meanwhile producing documentation to prove all of them are one or the other, preferably the latter, and, considering this forum, the latter will be a piece of cake to prove in 99% of cases, heh heh). That way you will be a hero and get payback at the same time.

And oh yeah, a great policy recommendation that there Leitmotiv. It's just that me proposing stuff like that would probably go unnoticed because of the garbage I usually post http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif
