Absolutely.

I was 13 years old when I saw the report on television, it shocked me to the core. I had long been interested in F1, and was used to hearing about drivers being killed/injured on a regular basis, but this episode (and Niki Lauda at Nurburgring) really hit me.

I remember Purley telling the media that for quite some time he could see his good friend Williamson moving in the cockpit, it must have been awful.

I do not know, but I guess that other drivers such as the great Jackie Stewart must have thought that Purley was the driver of the burning car, I can think of no other reason that some would not stop otherwise.

A very sad tale, and a very brave man.

Very sad vid,, shows how much F1 has moved on since though in terms of safety. What those men used to do in basically death traps was amazing.

Somehow echoes what have come to our priorities nowadays http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

Really great man, to the last he believes that his driving fellows could stop to help. Just to save his friend from frying alive.
For those rest, that is what we are nowadays, I'm afraid http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

What year did this happen in? I do remember vaguely something like this on TV, but I must`ve been quite young. It is a tragic situation. Doing your best to help and unable to. I think we should note others were trying to help and the passing drivers probably reckoned it was enough.
