Hi all,

I thought I'd post a quick update on my work on the next version of IL2-MAT Manager. Firstly a while back I fixed my PC by buying and fitting a new power supply. So far I've finished a number of complex and inter-related code changes and optimisations which centre around the following options. 3rd Gruppe symbol selection, Stab markings options, Jabo/Lettering/Numbering selection and Escuadrilla Azul markings. As part of this work I have changed the "bomb" symbol on Jabo Bf-109E/7 aircraft to the same black triangle marking as displayed on other Fw-190a and Bf-109e Jabo aircraft. It is also now possible to select the Escuadrilla Azul and Jabo options simultaneously and therefore enable display of Jabo markings (lettering and symbol) on 4th Gruppe Bf-190Es (except the E/4 model) and most models of Fw-190As whilst also displaying Escuadilla Azul markings on 4th Gruppe Bf-109Fs, G2s and G6s.

I have also added the "S7" code for the Schlachtgeschwader 3 units recently introduced into the games as both large and small sizing options and the white tank emblem used by one of these units. I hope also to be including some new country markings options and to have completed work on the new version by next weekend.

As some of you will know I've also been experimenting with the new colour de-saturated smartshader effect for ATI graphics cards by "DickDastardly" and I really love the effect. I've been hoping for some time that someone would produce such an effect and I personally think it looks much better than the games standard colours. I always get excited by things that change the look of the game and offer more choice thus my continuing work on IL2-MAT Manager. Below is a screenshot of the new Schlachtgeschwader 3 coding and unit emblem shown on a late model G Stuka taken with the new de-saturated smartshader effect. For those that would like more information on this here's a link to a posting on the SimHQ board:

Lastly I have now had time to fully analyse the results of my recent IL2-MAT Manager Survey and user request form. I cannot yet announce how I might be able to accomodate all your requests but have the nucleus of an idea based on these that I have been discussing with Grat which if it comes to fruition should fully encompass most if not all of your requests ! . http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

BTW I'm leaving this survey running on my website so if you haven't already
completed it, or you have any further requests please take a few minutes to complete it:

I'll post more information as soon as possible.

Hi chaps,

Atomic mate, thanks for the great information, you know I'll see what can be done.

Here's a quick update for you on my latest work:

I thought you might like to see my latest work on the IL2-MAT Manager v2.32 upgrade. I was asked if I could produce some historically correct numbering/lettering for KNIL (Dutch Air Force) Buffalo 1 aircraft to replace the game-default 2-digit black numbering. I did a bit of research and I have produced some correct white numbering/lettering for these aircraft. Below is a photograph of the second KNIL Buffalo on the Brewster production line and below that is a screenshot showing the new IL2-MAT Manager Dutch numbering/lettering. There will be an additional option in v2.32 to select randomised or non-randomised sequences for the new numbering/lettering.

I'll post some more new soon.

Hi Jim, hope all is well with you buddy.

Hi chaps,

Another day another Buffalo ! or rather the same Buffalo but the RAF variety.

Well the Mk1 Buffalo RAF markings take Aces' award for the most screwed up markings of any aircraft in the game, an award, believe you me, that I don't present lightly http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif . I though that I'd have a look at changing the red squadron ID letters and that was fine, I have changed things so that they now accept any of IL2-MAT Manager's RAF lettering colour options. Whilst at it I re-positioned these letters as best as can be done. They can't be in the correct location (under the cockpit) but at least they're now bigger and slightly further in that direction this is their optimum size/position without cut-off occuring.

So, as the saying goes, "here's the rub", you've probably noticed that the aircraft doesn't display individual aircraft call letters (bizare as the b-239 does but it isn't in the same aircraft grouping as the Mk1) well that's because the MATs for these DON'T EXIST !!. As this aircraft shares its MATs (and lack of MATs) with the F-2A then , yes you've guessed it, they don't exist for that aircraft either. So the best I can offer in the next version is the new colour/position options of the squadron code letter as per the example screenshot below.

Actually I have produced two sets of MATs, re-positioned/sized and non-repositioned/sized which can be selected using the program's re-positioned/non-repositioned RAF lettering option. Very frustrating as I'd have liked to have done matching aircraft call letters as well http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif .

http://www.leigh-kemp.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/MM_v2_32_WiP_Screenshot2.jpg

Still, I hope this is a bit of an improvement and I've "made the best of a bad lot" as the saying goes. At least you won't have to look at those ugly red letter codes if you don't want to http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif .

Regards to all

So I guess it is also undoable that on La's star comes first than number like on my pics above?
In game it is number first than star. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

Hi Aces,
it seems I stumbled upon some kind of bug or small problem.

I don't know if it was seen before or if there is a fix for it but here it is:
After I make my selections in the program I press the launch button. Then after the progress bar reach the end the bug apear... the RAAF/RN markings is reseted from my choice to default then to disabled... and the progress bar apears again and does its job... again.

The game launches at first filling of the progress bar... then hungs till the second filling is done. Ofcourse the RAAF/RN markings are gone in game... just the numbering/letters apear.

I've seen the problem before but after the 2.30 it had disapeared... now it apeared again. Ah... and the version written is 2.20 although I put the 2.30 files in place... Is it me? http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Hi chaps,

Atomic mate, yes, sadly that's exactly what it means. One can only re-position a marking slightly and not move it to another location however I may have some exciting news soon which will have a bearing on this issue, stay tuned mate http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif.

Hi zaelu,

Regarding your second point, the icon will stay at 2.20 because the upgrade is not a full Windows installer package, just the program ".exe" file, you could manually rename it of course. This is to keep the upgrade download as small as possible (4MB less !) but the program version shown in the program itself should read v2.31 after applying the latest upgrade.

Now regarding the RN/RAAF roundel. When you select the Pacific (P.T.O) lettering option the this will automatically change the RN/RAAF roundel option to "disabled" this is designed as such to be used on skins with the correct "bar" type RN roundel as show on the Seafire and Corsair skins included in the skin pack mentioned in the program documentation. My PTO lettering was especially positioned to work with these skins. You can re-select any of the RAAF/RN roundel options eg. override this by selecting your choice of roundel after first selecting the Pacific (P.T.O) lettering option and then exiting the program.

If you still have problems then there are a couple of things you could try. First make sure that you have run both of the v2.31 installers included in the v2.31 upgrade eg. the 2.31 Files installer as well as the program installer. Another option is to hit the "Save" button located in the program's "Control Panel" and then the "Load" tab at the top left of the GUI. Then quit and this will cause a full file copy operation and re-synch the GUI selections to the files copied.

One problem following the recent introduction of the new "fast program exit" coding has been that before this all files were copied every time the program exited but if one adds or changes files in an upgrade for an option that the user already has selected in the GUI then these files will only get copied when either the option is toggled, the program exited and the started and the original option re-selected OR the easiest way is to force a full file copy using the method described above. This will cause all of the GUI options to be re-read and ensure that the GUI choices match the files copied for those choices.

Hope this helps.

Regards

Aces

Hi Aces...are there any plans to include the RAF fin flash, in the future?

Hi Monty,

Sadly no, as this cannot be done as there's no marking graphic area / MAT file for this. It's on the skins only I'm afraid.

Aces it worked. Just like you said, I have set my choices then shut down the program... the progress barr went just one time. Now the markings are shown. Big thank you!

P.S. the version displayed by the program is still 2.20 although I updated it... twice.. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif
