A lot more pleasant than XP, not as good as Apple, but a definite improvement---you are full of surprises this week, SV!

Thanks buddy. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif I just saw this in zdnet and gave it a try. I like the Vista look but Vista is a real resource hog. This is a nice idea.. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

How about DX10 without Vista? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif

There are about a dozen of those mods out there. The better visual mods also include transparent taskbars and windows, new starting and shutdown sequences.
Two of the mods I tested also included Vistas Shortcuts to the explorer to access software installation/deinstallation and instant access to hardware options.

As with Vista, it only sucks up performance, though.

You know that 2 teams are working on the mod and one team allready released a pre-alpha-version that very well worked on XP? AFAIK they joined their efforts to release a beta soon.

I am now enjoying it, thanks for the link. I turned the widgets off as they added quite a few processes though they wern't using any CPU really. But I am enjoying the new Start menu interface. Much nicer than stock XP.

Not gonna bite. I run XP to look like 95 http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

There's a better one out there (IMHO of course, you don't have to agree...), I'll see if I can find it. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Btw, Vista isn't cr@p, I'm running Vista Home Premium and see no reason at all to revert back to XP.

EDIT:
Found it!
I used to use this one and was very happy with it.

I am glad you like it buddy. I am using it too now. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

BTW, I have the add on program for windows Vista but it just takes to much hard drive space for little to no improvements I can see. The only thing I liked about it was it's appearance and now I have it without all the wasted hard drive use..

I bet you would like it if it had a desktop featuring a picture of an assortment of fire arms and god's creatures and a mouse that worked as a telescopic scope.. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/winky.gif http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I also run XP 'stripped' - so much energy is wasted on visual extravagance...what is M/S thinking?

I want to run my apps as fast as possible and I don't give a shiney red rats patoot what my taskbar looks like or whether my icons and pages fade in and out or whatever - what a complete waste of resources.

The Web Surfing and E-Mail crowd love Vista.
Most more advanced users and gamers don't like it.

I found a procedure to strip Vista
so it runs like a stripped version of XP.
It works nearly as good as XP.

Bottom line is that MS really blew it.
That is why business computer buyers get a
copy of XP pro so they can do a free downgrade to XP.
Yes, this is official, MS offers a free "downgrade" to
owners of Business or ultimate Vista owners.

"Windows Vista" is to XP as "Win Me" was to "Win 98"
Just a soft serve piece of garbage to make the
majority of users, the bottom tier web surfers and E-Mail crowd, feel all warm and fuzzy.

One final note, DX-10 works, and helps some games.
Bummer MS does not allow a version of DX10 for XP.

Yeah, me too.

I tried those mods and sticked with my plain basic Win2K look.

On my notebook Vista was preinstalled. After deactivating all the eyecandy it runs almost as fast as with XP - LOL.
