View Full Version : Issues with playing online - Patch 1.1b

cartrix
08-13-2003, 09:06 AM
We understand some people are having difficulties when playing online through the ubi.com Gameservice with patch 1.1b. We have identified the problem and it will be corrected in the next patch.

However, there is a solution for those who wish to fix it now but please bare in mind that any changes to your PC registry are taken at your own risk.

It is necessary to rename these two registry keys.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Ubi Soft\Game Service Games\IL2FB_COOP
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Ubi Soft\Game Service Games\IL2FB_DFIGHT

Here are the new names for these keys:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Ubi Soft\Game Service Games\IL2FB_COOPERATIVE
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Ubi Soft\Game Service Games\IL2FB_DOGFIGHT

In order to edit your registry click Start => Run and then type regedit. Then move through the directories and find the correct registry key. To rename the key right click on it and then change it to the new name.

We apologize for this inconvenience and will ensure that this issue is resolved in the next patch release.

Please ask any questions about this issue in this thread.

Maybe it's time to go to the Ubi server once and just see how it is, I never have tried it.

Thanks for addressing the issue.

Cheers,
Mike

Done that last night and....

COOP - Noone could host for some reason 90% of ppl timed out - although a couple of ppl could host ?!?!

DOGFIGHT - Auto launched game when entering room without the game being ready so have to exit to rejoin room.

Looks like the UBISoft lobby / launcher needs a slap.

Thanks for the info though.

Hi,

I tried yesterday evening and this morning to
get online untill now it is impossilble.

The key.....game service games\il2fb_cooperative and
il2fb_dogfight shouldn`t it read ....game service games\il2_fb cooperative and \il2_fb dogfight?

XyZspineZyX
08-13-2003, 09:28 AM
If anyone can do this for Windows 9x/ME and then export the result I can host it.

Better solution would be for UBI to create the required REG fragments (trusted source etc) and host.

This would preclude customers from having to get thier hands dirty in the registry, and many do not know/want to do registry editing.

Editing is a LAST RESORT IMHO!

I stayed up until after midnight helping people on UBI.com last night and can tell you this is needed!

Cartrix - you have the resources please help!

No Hornet!

it should be as Cartrix posted!

They should just patch the Ubi.com service to read the reg entries as they are now patched. When cartrix says it will be fixed in the next patch does that mean another few months for the proper fix?

XyZspineZyX

Good point Owen, as the original registry entries re-appear along with the changed ones!.

It should also be noted that the above fix posted by Cartrix and others will work. However a REG fragment (exported key) will only work if IL2FB is installed in the default location.

This points to a need to patch the UBI.com service as suggested!

Hello!

The patch is really good and the planes fly well.
Only plane that need some tweaking is the I153 because you can loop infinetly with it and gain altitude at the same time :P but thats another issue.

The problem is that people cant connect to the coop the game times people out!
Fix this please and very quickly because we cant have it this way!
Has to be your first priority to get the online game going,

cya and thx for the patch

Hello!

He doesnt understand because editing the registry is serious stuff that is at best left to windows veterans who have the knowlege or education to mess with the keys.
It's nothing that we gamers should have to do!
Its bad that maddox games sloppyness has resulted in this.
They take no responsibility but post the regedit guide because we have to do it to be able to play at ubi!

I was wondering, if I change the key names, could it mess up my computer? In vengeanze's post he said that we had to do these things at our own risk. Does that mean that if I change the key names to the letter, that I could still experience problems with the computer? P.S. After I changed the names, the original two still remained. Is this normal, and what should I do with them? After all, I am just a gamer, and not an expert at Windows.

if u did it correctly the two originals shouldnt be there, just the ones u changed.

No harm will happen to windows if u just edit the settings for IL-2. The game might be messed up though /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

WHAT? Tweaking is what GAMERS do! Big noobin' deal, they forgot the regedit change, I'm thinking the fact they posted it IS taking responsibility for the screw up.
Jeez dude....you should play at HyperLobby anyhow
Editing the registry is no more difficult or treacherous than updating Nvidia drivers...well except for those PC folks who dont know how to defrag, clean the recycle bin or do the most basic of PC maintenence, sure it will terrify those greenhorn weenies.
You know what the difference between "we gamers" and "windows veterans" is? (or is that 'are') Gamers that got tired of the limp windows features and took it upon themselves to make things better.

U can safely delete the old ones if u have the new values as Cartrix typed.

Anyways u shouldnt really have gotten two sets in the first place, 'cause u should RENAME the "old" ones.

So if the "old" reappears after a rename i have no clue.
Gotto try this when i get home in a few hours.

First I'm supposed to try tweaking the h*ll out of my computer,to get the out of box game to function without freezes and lags at even the lower settings.Much time wasted there since my computer started out as a lean mean fast machine and the risk of screwing something up is high for a non-techie.
Now I'm supposed to tweak my registry? No I don't think so.Even if it is easy. I'll be flying at hyperlobby.

Make sure that the keys values (hence my numerous requests that you post them here) actually refer to the path where you have installed the game. Open each key in turn and check the path.

Should be:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Ubi Soft\Game Service Games\IL2FB_DOGFIGHT]
"arg"="GS DFIGHT"
"directory"="c:\\Program Files\\games\\Ubi Soft\\IL-2 Sturmovik Forgotten Battles\\GSData"
"exec"="c:\\Program Files\\games\\Ubi Soft\\IL-2 Sturmovik Forgotten Battles\\il2fb.exe"

If you have installed it into c:\program files\GAMES\ubi soft\il-2 sturmovik forgotten battles

My money is on the path(s) being incorrect.

Since it has been stated twice that this error will be properly corrected in the next patch, now my only question is which patch are you guys talking about? A ubi.com service update, the Final FB 1.1 patch or some other incarnation? I personally have no troubles doing the fix myself using regedit but for many others it may be difficult and having waited so long as it is for the 1.1 Beta, I think it is just going to drive customers away not making a quick and easy patch to rectify their problems but instead making them wait another month or two since major patching seems to be a slow going process.

I will not tolerate the ATTITUDE that I must wait until the next patch comes out. After reading all these posts I see we are all having the same problem. Unfortunately, it looks like it is time to change over to hyperlobby, not to mention never buying ubisoft products in the future. Maybe microsoft will get their heads out of their asses and we can return to CFS.

ok Vengance i should have been more clear ....

i have installed the patch succesfully ....

i cannot join some 1.1 rooms tho ....

others with the patch successfully installed cannot host a DF room ( or coop ) , but i can

that is what i meant .... i didnt post simply out of frustration & i will be more clear next time

EDIT : the registry fix is easy Enuf once you find the registry EXE & there is numerous ppl at UBI or HL willing to take you thru it step by step

what i am puzzeled at is i am abel to host with no probs & others cannot
also some 1.1 rooms i cannot connect to but others i can

is a prob that needs attention

OK here is the big heart breaker

#1 the key will be recreated (by the game itself) how cares!
#2 it will not work on HL either.
#3 poor QA from UBI or However you want. many company would be facing the law if they would ever put out a product that has no imediate fix for a problem like this one.(but it's free so i'll shut-up) lol

#4 none the less.....i LOVE the game (offline for the moment, lol), it is not perfect, but hell it's much better than Solitaire or any other crap that comes with Bill's Wimpdows, and many games i have paided for in the past couple of years.

#5 PC were created to play games, flight sim if possible, FB if you have it. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

It still does not fix the lack of ability to host though, someone has mentioned you need to edit the arg file as well to say the same wording ie DOGFIGHT. That at least got my menus in game back up....Thanks Crawlerz /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Words Fail me that this has not had an emergency patch fix out, this is poor to be polite or the server altered if it can be, you expect children to come online, (and you do get them) to play there latest game and have to mess about in the registry, something they will have no comprehension about and can seriously cause problems with their PC.

BAD UBI...... REAL BAD................. This is like FORD inviting you down to their Factory to get you to replace your own brake lines after they have issued a recall....

Would it not be better to withdraw the patch and get it right or simply put out 1.1c with the hosting and connection items fixed?

I realise it may make you all look in a bad light but hey from my point of view your candle went out weeks ago.

- The "is" in your case is refering to the word
- "difference" which is third person singularis.
- Therefore it is "is"! <img

- I am unable to connect
- You are unable to connect
- He/She/It is unable to host

- We are unable to help you connect
- You are stuffed by UBI
- They are not going to help you host
