how about classic RAF humour, someone should spray a big 'U/S' on the fuselage, for those of you who are not really aviation minded U/S does not mean United States, it means Un-serviceable. The amount of of downed german aircraft during BOB that some bright spark of a soldier thought would be humorous to spray U/S on the side i've seen so many pictures like this.
