Friends: Sorry for my english, i talk spanish. My question is; why do you lunch a destroyer or battleship simulator with the engine form the silent hunter 5?

Destroyer command 1 is great; and in the market; there is not a naval ships simulator (of war).

Please considere my suggestion; we are a lot that think as me.

GOOD LUCK , and please response me if is possible.

yes, we requestet it since Silent Hunter 3... many gave up asking.

Would be a pleasure to have 3d bridge, flying bridge, sonar and engine room, whole outside ship and important stations / decks manned reachable in full 3D with realistic sonar & gundirector and so on. Expandable with cruisers, battleships so people can act more as a model builder.

With Destroyer Command 1 we fought huge battles this times, would be a real pleasure to have it with this new nice grafics engine. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

Many of us love Chinese47 Warshipmod, there is also a "Surface Warfare Super-Mod" in progress, its a pity that all this isnt hered by UBI-Soft, hunting human sub`s in multiplay is realy enjoyabel. We can only pray...

Well, you never know. Maybe the dev team and Ubi will give us all an unexpected and very welcome surprise with a seperate release of "Destroyer Command 2" as its own game or an add-on for SH5.

Maybe it could be even better by borrowing inspiration from those mods mentioned and be a full surface warship add-on to allow play for everything from a humble ASW Trawler to a mighty battleship!

YES!!! I've also been asking for this. You've got a great engine here. Use it!

Man it'd be so awesome, and even make that reality of U-Boats vs Destroyers Multiplayer come true!

yea, could you imagine playing against a hardcore SH sub skipper, who decided to go to the dark side and play the Destroyer in a sim like this? They would be tough opponents, knowing how sub skippers think...oh the possibilities.

Yes my English is also n bit broken
I loved SH3... IT was 6MOnthes of my life. But 4 was boring...beautiful but boring. Why not expanding the game out to a Battleships game.
Think Navyfield with SH4 GFX.
Subs is fun but played one decent subgame(SH3) u played all sub games hence if it is like a nice seawolf or somting.
And if u gone make another sub game. let it there be a dynamic campaign were i begin as low rank en play me up in the ranks with the necessary incentives (like better engine or torpedoes or detection systems)Put at least a good RPG system+ strategic command(multilayer) system
Amen

I remember when sh2/dc was the most intense game play ever.sweating out a attack by good dc captian was realy nerve racking.you had to be the best sub driver to evade a team of them.
bring back human control to dd,s with the advaned technology we have today the battles would be epic.

I'm surprised there hasn't ever been a sequel to Destroyer Command. Enigma: Rising Tide is just gonna have to hold me over until such event occurs...

I apologise to other users for posting in Spanish but I feel it neccesary for jpaquila to understand better and So that I to understand his point .

Hola!

Abrazo y saludos.

As I recall destroyer command was a bit of a flop. Certainly commercially it never made to much head way and as a game I didnt much like it.
I never played any modded versions if there were any but I Felt it was very badly designed in just about every aspect and certainly not complete.

Just not a very good game and thus it has never warrented a sequal

Shoot me down if you want but thats just my view on it

I've always wanted a Destroyer Command, too (linkable to the Silent Hunter series).

And, while we're at it, add some flyable Catalina's, Sunderlands and Condors (not forgetting the Wildcats and Martlets).

Destroyer Command was all jolly good and gave us the chance to give those Japs and Huns the damned good thrashing they deserve. However the game focused far too much on the part played by our allies on the other side of The Pond...
As such it was limited in what missions were available and thus failed to capture the major surface actions such as the battle of River Plate, The sinking of the Bismark, the various battles with the Italian fleet in the Med, the action off Norway or the evacuation from Dunkirk.
A more comprehensive title would be welcomed if such a thing is to be put on the cards.

I can actually think of many good uses for an engine that can display the entire Atlantic ocean with beautifully rendered water, realistic weather, shorelines, and a 24-hour timecycle. The ability to actually travel from Germany to USA in one long haul without loading a new map is quite impressive.

What if Ubisoft Romania would sell their engine to other manufacturers. Imagine nuclear subs, or WW1 battleships (Jutland anyone?)... Or even the age of sail. What if Microsoft could make Ship Simulator with global oceans instead of limited map areas...

Sometimes I imagine what it would be like if all good things in the gaming world came together, but unfortunately I think I'll have to stick to imagining. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

When is Silent Hunter going to get into the 20th Century? I mean, America vs the Russians, a little Cold war action?? Could be alot of fun dont you think??

Ubi had a chance to do that with Harpoon 4 and dropped it like a hot potato some 7 years ago. I also think that SH fans would riot if it moved from WWII.

Well, as DC2 obviously will not happen as a standalone game - they could add a playable destroyer in SH6... They gotta do something http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Adding it as an expansion to SH5 would naturally be a nice alternative too. It's a lot of internal modeling of the bridge etc but they have a full set of externals done for a lot of destroyers. Sure, they need some more polys if they get playable - but the base is there. How hard can it be http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Gentlemen you just have to think laterally,

silent hunter 4 supports adversarial mode with a shoip controlling ai destroyers to sink subs,
just change the code so that the ai destroyers can be human controlled ???
but of course that would mean that you would need more than the number of 8 base players.
So essentially you join a silent hunter game and choose to be either sub or destroyer???

hows that sound http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/11.gif

sounds like your a bottom feeder that would not fare very well againts a good dd captain.
also things have changed alot since sh4 i dont think making a dd human controlled for say 8 players
would be that big a problem. wolf pack leauge still has a forum and fan base after all these years and many of those
played a dd captian as well.I think you never played againts a real human in a dd sir.think you would find it a real challenge.
aka unpredictable and ruthless.

There is such a game on the market. Take a search for "Dangerous Waters"

You can command Helicopters, Aircraft, (Nuclear-)Subs and modern Destroyers.

A short movie

I too would enjoy seeing a Destoryer Command 2. I orignally got Silent Hunter II when it came out but never got Destoryer Command. I just couldnt find it locally at the time. But I could just never master Silent Hunter II as well as I did with Silent Hunter III and IV. How ever I do agree with how great Silent Hunter IV looked and the improvements visually with Silent Hunter IV, if they do make a Destoryer Command 2 they better make it where you could command just about any surface ship and have full 3D view. I also think they should have a double feature. Have a solo and multiplayer mode. Lets face it, I have tried to play the multiplayer mode for Silent Hunter IV and there is never anyone online. I did get into Silent Hunter III multiplayer mode just once but the person hosting must have crashed or froze up.

Some of the things I would love to see would be such as Silent Hunter WW I series. I would love to experiance spotting the Lusitania off the irish cost, or laying off the coast of Kea to catch a view and torpedo the HMHS Britannic. Or risk running into the RMS Olympic which was converted to a troop carrier in WW I. Maybe even have it where the Olympic if spotting you will attempt to turn and ram you.

I could also go for cold war action such as US vs USSR. But we already got a US vs USSR game as far as I know. From the trailers I have seen theres one out from few years back of Dangerous Waters. Then theres Tom Clancy`s SSN which is a great game even though the graphics are kinda primative by todays standards and appears to be the same style used in the orignal Deadly Dozen game.

One other idea that would be a good idea I personally think is what about a American Civil War sub sim. I mean I am sure we all have heard of the C.S.S. Hunley that sank after torpedoing and sinking the U.S.S. Housatonic. I think it would make a great sim to be able to actively campagin the C.S.S. Hunley against Union ships. Maybe could even release a add on pack where you could command surface ships like the U.S.S. Monitor or the C.S.S. Merrimack.

There are just so many different ideas for naval simulations that cover different time periods and different situations. Personally I would enjoy any of the ideas I listed above. Like wise I would also enjoy a game simmilar to Ship Simulator but SH IV/V style where you command a war ship. And for those that would like to see the Silent Hunter series global map be used on games like Ship Simulator that allows you to go anywheres I would do you one better. Why not combine games such as 18 Wheels of Steel, Silent Hunter IV & V, and Ship Simulator.

18 Wheels of Steel for their lay out of you going to any business anywheres in the US, Canada, Mexico you pick up a job and the cargo, you haul it and get paid. Silent Hunter IV & V for their graphics, semi realistic sinking, and world map playing field without loading sectors, and Ship Simulator for their ability to command a wide range of ships from Titanic to super tankers. I think that would be an ideal game. It would give the player ultimate control and let them do what they want.

Now dont get me wrong I love WWII sub simulations and I dont want to see the Silent Hunter series to leave WWII for WW I or Civil War. I would just like for a seperate series made as a sub series of the Silent Hunter Series. They did Silent Hunter 4 Wolf Pack add on. Why not do something like Silent Hunter Episode 1 : The Great War, or Silent Hunter Episode 2 : American Civil War or something to that extent to indicate they are not the same as the convential Silent Hunter series. There are ways that we can keep the WWII basis of the Silent Hunter series but also have different eras thrown into the mix through add on packs or games that fall under the Silent Hunter series.

Destroyer command would be neat, no doubt - but what I long for is a PT boat! I know someone just released a sim called PT Boats, but that's more of a sample sim/strategy of PT Boats and so in turn, more game and less sim.

I want a good Pacific War USN PT Boat sim, and just expounding upon SH4(6?) and it's theater would only make sense. Give me in-depth knowledge of the 80' Elco and 78' Higgins boats, give me a comparable career mode complete with actual medals/ribbons of the time, training from the A schools out East, and give me an accurate accounting of real PT boat squadrons and ships.

After playing SH3 I kept thinking it would be fun to have a game where you are in the RN, RCN or USN and play as a destroyer/corvette commander hunting subs, attacking enemy shipping and escorting convoys and taskforces.

I love having command of my own ship and the freedom to use it as I please (more or less.) It would be a great addition to the SH series. When you're bored of sub-ing, you can play the other game and vice versa http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

A long time ago I had a game called Task Force 1942.

The game refought the dramatic and savage night surface action battles that took place off Guadalcanal around Savo Island.

US and Aussie ships against the Tokyo Express.

You could command the task force from the bridge of your flagship, switch to command any other ship in the force or fight down in the torpedo and gun turrets.

Spotlights, starshells, torpedo wakes and general confusion of a night naval surface action.

It was intense!!!!

No one has touched this genre (naval surface action) effectively since 1992 when the game came out.

That's 18 years ago.

Forget that !

Ubi was so enfased to get money the mush quickly possible that they have forget how to made real good multiplayer naval warfare games animore, They have beem infected from the game zone sindrome M$ money maker Virus. (Making money, money, money and put the "plug off" when they begin to not make money animore.) Its sad but is the true !

And I'm sure even if they made a DC2 whit SH5 they will do the same whene money will slow down put the "plug off".

I was a real fan of Destroyers command and Silent Hunter II when they have sort out a cople years ago , Have purchace both game and a lot of UBI game to, then I have purchasse Silent Hunter III but have beem very (the word is little) desapointed by it becose so anoying, no more DC vs SUB. I was not impressionned by "spectacular view and graphic of the new game and have never purchasse Silent Hunter IV and V forget its finish for me until they come down on hearth and give what the customer want DC VS SUB game.
